Reactions to today's suspension mods...

Today AGXs were installed, as well as an RSTB, and a dead coil was cut off the rear of my springs.

Before today I had Sprints, an FSTB, and an RSB.

You know how people say, "My car handles like it's on rails?" Well I am yet to be conviced it really isn't. :)

Firstly let me say that I did this on the street, but with not a single car in sight nor a pedestrian. It takes place in the middle of farmland. I would NEVER endanger anyone's life except my own when I drive like this. Anyways...

This really sharp bend has a "Caution 20MpH" sign before entering it. Typically I take this turn at about 60MpH and you can hear my tires coming loose. Today I took it at 70MpH and not a single chirp out of the tires, not to mention the decrease in body roll is incredible. Right now my AGXs are set at 2 front / 4 rear, and I am riding on Yokohama Avid tires.
Okay next turn. 15MpH right curve (almost 90-degrees) taken at 60MpH. Once again, the tires didn't break loose. This is incredible. I don't know wether to attribute it to the AGXs or RSTB, but not only do I have significantly less body roll through turns, but it seems as though I have much more traction as well.

As of right now, this setup seems incredible. The handling is unbelievable. But naturally, there is a downside. The car vibrates much more. Now when going 60MpH the steering-wheel will vibrate almost twice as much as it used too. :( However I made that observation while the AGXs were set at 3/5, and I didn't really pay attention when I tuned it down. The ride seems just about the same as with stock struts (when I'm on 2/4 with the AGXs), but larger bumps are felt a little more (not a big deal at all). Another thing, all the squeaking I had in the front of my suspension is now gone, but there is still a sqeak from the rear. I was thinking it could be the RSB, is that possible?

Anyways I noticed no decline in ride quality with the coil cut off the Sprints, probably because they are progressive and only a dead coil was cut off. But it looks WAY better. Almost level (from far away it looks perfectly level, but close up you can see gaps more precisely). Definitely worth doing before you install Sprints of even if you have them. The car looks SO much better and is not so much lower so that you will scrape things if you didn't previously.

The only thing I don't like about the AGXs is that the knob faces inwards, towards the center of the car. This makes it hard for me with my drop, because I have to go under the car from the rear and can barely see the knobs.

Anyways tomorrow the car gets detailed and I'll post some pics of the drop and RSTB. But as for now, you got one more person sold on the improvement of AGXs and RSTB. :D

Thanks for the input to the .org, Cyrus!

Feedback is helpful to others who want to make the leap but can't decide on what to get.

maybe you should get an alignment?? Anytime you remove or change suspension parts it can easily shift your toe and camber.. i'd suggest getting an alignment and maybe even a balancing and that should clear up the added shakes.

take care.. and enjoy the handling.. just be safe.

Good point - I have a lifetime alignment thingy too I forgot about, thanks for reminding me Jason. I'll go down there sometime this week, hopefully that will help.

I wish I could... but my cleanance just won't allow it. :( I'll have every suspension mod except SFCs soon enough.

I think the alignment will help a little, you might wanna wait about 2 weeks, but then again, if you get free alignment, get it now so you have somewhat better handling immediately, and then again in a couple weeks. why not?:gotme:

:o vyrus lose some weight to get to those knobs to adjust your rear rebound:p

Y2KMaxGXE-R Nov 10, 2002 06:52 AM

Virus, how would your new suspension contribute to vibration of the steering wheel at 60MPH and above? Could be just your tires went out of balance from all that speeding;)

It could be, but I think the struts are just plain firmer and that's why I'm feeling the extra vibration. Maybe an alignment will take care of it tho.

Can you really even call them adjustable since you have to take apart the whole strut to adjust them? :D

no not for me I am suspension booofooon you forgot lookz at my sig:D it wont take me no more then a 1hour to adjust both of the shocks. I got my set on the lower perch to lower it down some and 75% stiff. I may stiffen them up 100% just like the fronts. I dont complain about suspension qualities of my car. You know once you mod the suspension life will be different but the car sure handles completely better.

Man thats not that bad, hell ask Cumalot how much he paid? and we both were big time Noobz back then.

I paid the fck heads over $500 for the installation of Eibach springs. then they wanted like $175 for one Koni strut/insert not including installation. Now how does that compare to $130. How about all these guys that are now getting it done for $110:D. Even the girls are loving that shyt. I am out to bail out as many maxima owners or any Nissan owners out that I possibly can.

One more thing Performance shops charge very cheap labor mostly on Hondas. Now bring a Nissan Maxima they want to charge you all up the azzzz, Fck that that shyt aint going to happen on my watch or anywhere ever I go believe that.

 $500??? I mean when I called around some shops wanted $600, but as I kept calling most shops wanted $250. My shop rocks though, they only charge $110 for a spring/strut install, mine was only more because I had my springs cut and wrapped. I don't think they've worked on many Maxima before, but they fix up Silvias all the time. I am lucky to have a shop like them around, but if you lived in the area I would go to you instead. I mean, you have done this so many times before you know what to do even better than they do. Not to mention you can point out future problems they might not be able to (dust boots!). Oh well, I'm happy with my new suspension, despite the cost it kick all arse!!!

BTW here's a nice pic I took today. :D
