Hi my name's Eric, and I'm a modoholic

I'm concerned I might be addicted to mods… I bought a 99 Maxima less than a month ago and I've spent nearly 800 bucks already on mods. I don't even have any plates on the car yet for God sake. Worse yet, I still want to get in on the race pipe group deal, and I want some rotors soon. That would put me over a thousand!! I think I'm in denial, because I keep ordering sh*t without thinking about how I'm going to pay for it because the deals are so good. Anyone know of any good low interest credit cards? To stop modding cold turkey is out of the question. Have any other modoholic's found a way to cope with their problem?

My problem is my Fiance...What she doesn't know can't hurt her.

My money is mine, so I can do what I like with it. But she could make my life hell if she wanted I'm sure.

SuDZ Nov 20, 2002 02:07 PM

You probably havent even entered into the big time modding yet. Wait til that bug gets you.

Well I actually had a '97 before my '99 so I was well informed about possible mods after purchase. Some of the mods transferred

I'm Transferring:
Wheels and Tires (Arrows, but want to upgrade to 18's)
H&R's
Rear Sway Bar
FSTB (want new one though)
Muffler

I'm Buying:
KYB AGX's for the H&R's (had, GR-2's)
PR-CAI (selling short ram)
STS (last one was an auto)
Clear tails

Need badly:
Y-Pipe (sold last one)
CD Rotors (old CD's warped)

Want:
Race pipe
TURBO!!
Whole Exhaust mandrel bent
Probably more crap I can't think of

asu174 Nov 20, 2002 02:19 PM

10 months and almost 10 grand later, I'm right there with ya.

MAXimumHP Nov 20, 2002 02:24 PM

Nice to see I'm not alone :D

SuDZ Nov 20, 2002 02:39 PM

Go for the turbo, that will take care of exhaust mods as well :D

hacim105 Nov 20, 2002 02:58 PM

Maybe it's just me or something, but where do all you guys who go out and buy 2002/2003 maximas have money to go and put mods on your car?
I have a 96 and I'm still scrounging to get money for my mods.
Then I see these 2002 Maxima SE's with intake, exhaust, y-pipe, 18's, lowered, and a body kit. Where are you getting all this money from?
I mean my only guess would be that you charge up your credit cards. But you have to have payments that bog you down. I just don't get it.

gumbo Nov 20, 2002 03:02 PM

Yeah! Get married and have kids, then let your wife handle the money. You won't be buying sh*t unless she say's o.k.! When she does run with it till she cuts you off! That's what I do.......

JeffesonM Nov 20, 2002 03:04 PM

gotta shake your money maker :wiggle:

Some people have enough money to get more expensive cars but opt for the maxima which leaves mod money in the wallet.

Exactly, I mean you could go for a BMW or something else but have higher payments or less money left for mods than if you went Max. All depends on your likes and priorities.

ps - budget ypipe is 165 shipped :D
pps - alex (southwestautoworks.com) has CD Rotors for $150 for the fronts and $130 for the rears (brembo stock size) :D

Synki Nov 20, 2002 03:48 PM

I hear ya buddy, I know the feeling. You get addicted very easily. :)

If it makes you feel any better. I have under 6k miles on my WRX (6 months) and about $5k invested under the hood only. :D

I30tMikeD Nov 20, 2002 04:05 PM

It's not hard for me to justify spending money on my ride. I starting moding about the same time I quit partying, so I just throw my money into something else.:)

Well with all mods, there will always be some problems. Little things break here and there. My advice is to mod slowly. Slapping everything on at once, you'll have your hands full when something isn't installed right and starts making noises.

And can make pinpointing those noises harder since you might not know what the last thing done tothe car was.

first of all....acknowledging that you have this problem is the first step.

*evil laugh* Muahahahahahahahhahha! *evil laugh*

f*ck am I kidding.....you're doooooomed!!!!!

only solution is to buy EVERY DAMN THING.

the cure doesn't come voluntarily.

You are cured once you have no money and your credit cards are all maxed out. Even then.....some are never cured. You may be one of
them. You may resort to stealing and devoting your life to the way of the "street walker", prostituting yourself for monetary compensation which in turn goes straight to modding.

this happened to a friend of mine once......so very sad:(

Not Funny, I'm seriously thinking of Turbo. Very highly thinking of some sort of FI anyway. When I was looking for cars I was thinking about a new Max or Altima, Possibly even Z, but that extended beyond my price range. Anyway by getting a '99 I could re-use my 4th gen parts and have money left over for mods. Problem is modding gets expensive real quick. 4 grand for a turbo Isn't bad considering the power you gain and you shouldn't need to search for much more power. But side cost is what can get ya with the turbo ie...Clutch (gotta put in a flywheel then :D ), safe guard, gauges, controllers, fuel upgrades... So I don't think there will ever be an end to modding. God I love it!

NYCe MaXiMa Nov 20, 2002 07:41 PM

Only 800$?

:wall:

I'm looking at over a grand right now and my car is still stock looking..

i still need close to 3 grand to "finish" what i started..

tires = 500$,
HIDs, window tint, misc stereo stuff = 1000$
springs and shocks = 500$
body kit paint = 200-400$
leather = 200 - 400$

lol
i'd usually be the last person to dump so much $ into the car...

Maxima.org is EVIL

Initially, when I had bought my Maxima, I hadn't even thought about modding my car. All of that changed as soon as I came upon this website. Now I can't stop with the mods. I have about two mods coming in the mail as we speak as well as a racing straight pipe as soon as the deal goes through. :help:

Well she is at least becoming accustom to my driving. When Her Friends and us go out, they think I'm a crazy driver, where she just comes to expect it. There may be a modding side to her also. However last night I got the "You love your PR-CAI more than me don't you".

Sounds like your fiancee (or should I say financee - as she'll be in charge of the $ when you get married) is warming to the Maxima.
My wife loves my new Maxima, and she loves the sound the intake makes. She even tells me to "blow them away" when ricey civics and integras get on my tail.

I've had to control my modding habit - especially after ordering a Y Pipe without telling her - that got me in a lot of trouble!

She wants to get me a SC next year though - she just started working 6 months ago, so up until then it had all been my income for our house, bills and her school bills.

ssilva420 Nov 21, 2002 08:47 AM

With in two weeks of buying my max i had spent 2000 on rims and tires. Then after a month i did the system, on the third month i got springs and shocks/struts.. ive slowed down since then,, due to school..

They make it look so innocent. Hey look just 30 bucks and I will get a cleaner looking engine, a bit more performance and some better mpg... It pulls you in then it becomes, well if I get the whole HAI intake with it then it helps even more, but the Y pipe is what really clogs this, I mean if I get the Y pipe it just helps the intake more right, well since I have done that might as well get the b- pipe..... now since my muffler is the only old thing left lets take care of that.....

It pulls you in too fast, it is like heroin, before you knew it you were hooked.

Street Reeper Nov 21, 2002 02:28 PM

I here you. To save money for mods I can't do myself, I go to Loews or Home Depot to fabricate my own. It seems every week I do somthing different (but it is really fun) and I spend a ton of time running back and fourth trying to get the perfect parts. I missed out on a party and going over to my girl friends:naughty: to finish my custom shortram/CAI intake. But after it was done and I stomped on the accelerator, it was worth it. Hope to get a digi camrea soon so I can post picks.
