The First NA 3rd gen automatic in the 14's!!!!

I went to the Fayetteville Motorsports Park in Fayetteville, NC. Sunny, no wind, high of 60 degrees.

My real mods are:
Custom Intake
WSP Ypipe
ASP UDP
WSP Testpipe
Maximum Tuning Valve Body

My free mods are:
Advanced Timing to 20* BTDC
Removed AC Belt
Removed seats and gutted trunk

Oh yeah, here is my full timeslip from my best run:

60' 2.3400
330' 6.3698
1/8 9.6696@74.83mph
1000' 12.5091
1/4 14.9374@92.61mph

Tire pressure was left at 32 psi since I didn't have a problem with traction on this nice track.

Here's what happened:
I get to the track and immediately run right off the highway.

15.701 @ 88.44mph (2:12pm) w/ Retarded Timing, WAI, and KS bypass
15.606 @ 88.86mph (2:21pm) w/ Retarded Timing, WAI, and KS plugged in. The ECU didn't have enough time to adjust to the bad KS. So, that is why my time was about the same.

I leave my KS plugged in, advance my timing to 20*, and rig up my Ram Air Intake. Then, I spend the next hour and a half waiting for my engine to cool down. What happens next simply amazed me...
14.945 @ 92.08mph (4pm) with cold motor.
14.999 @ 91.91mph (4:53pm) with still warm motor.
14.959 @ 92.49mph (5:02pm) with hot motor.
14.937 @ 92.61mph (5:06pm) and then the track closed.

Well, that's it. A consistantly high 14's NA VE Auto. Not too shabby huh?

Good job. Now I know what my car is capable of. What handling mods do you have?

Nothing, other than FSTB. I need springs and new struts.

didn't he just say he ran consistent 14s even with a hot motor? It looks like the Ram Air and the advanced timing did it. Congrats!!

straight six Dec 31, 2002 05:32 AM

Great run!!

I'm from that area and Fayetteville Motorsports Park is one of the stickiest tracks on the East Coast.

Congrats on breakin into the 14's job well done. Brian

dmontzsta Dec 31, 2002 10:05 AM

Job well done! Like I said, with the few minor mods you have in store, I am sure you can hit mid 14's and heck maybe even low 14's, you should get springs/struts and a catback next. Well VQ guys what does this tell you? VE is right there with ya!

it tells me good job for Aaron92se. nice run.

uhmmmmmm at least you are one of the few VE out there proving people worng and not just sitting on the side running your mouth. hmmmm i believe it sounds like someone i know. bunch of $hit talking but when ask to step out on the track gives a bunch of excuses.

oh well

we will see you in cali aaron good run

dmontzsta Dec 31, 2002 10:37 AM

 you will see...I thought you were cool with the 3rd gen, but now you must be one that wants to be proven, the hard way.;) you guys always want to pick on the wounded...wait until I am in shape in these next couple of months, hehe, maybe I will be done when Fontana opens again.

BTW: I think my 255k VE may have kicked the can last night. We will see today when I go fire it up, maybe that explains why I have been telling you guys it has had no power, but you still wanted to race it:( like picking on a VG, I know when it was running well, it would put a little distance on John's auto and he would only win me by about 1-2 cars with his 5 speed.

I didn't know you were from Greensboro. That's cool. And yeah, Fayetteville is probably one of the fastest and stickiest tracks in the nation. I'd have to compare it to the track in Las Vegas. It's just as sticky. But, the thing is, the Vegas track is higher altitude. So, you won't see this car busting those awesome times any more when I move out there. Just a couple tenths slower if I drive to SoCal.

crazy4maxima Dec 31, 2002 11:33 AM

holey mother of 3rd gens.. wtf.. OMG congrats on that big win for yah.. gez. i would love to see what poeple thought.. i would hva egone up to the loud speaker.. HOley shiet did you see taht folks.. na 3rd gen running that time!!!:woot:

Yup, born and raised right outside of Fayetteville and now reside in the 'Boro. Looks like i'll be moving to Charlotte if this job opportunity works out but i'm giving the West Coast alot of thought. My 2nd Maxima was a 93 SE 5-spd, I could have never gotten into the 14's with that car, just didn't have the driving skills, again congrats on an awesome run. So it looks like we have 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gens in the 14's. Someone needs to hook up a 2nd gen and make it a clean sweep. :p

I just changed my plugs and found lots of oil in cylinder #4:(

Oh yeah NYC...I am making this official...I am going to try and be the first N/A VE 5 speed into the 13's, only reason there is 1 VE, is cause the number of VQ's vs VE's is about 30 to 1

Dave B Dec 31, 2002 03:00 PM

The air in NC must be 20% nitrous

Good run.
