I've moved on

Well, the day has come that I have retired my Maxima. Fortunately, I sold it to someone I'm close with so I will still be around asking questions, as he wants to take the car to the next level (probably turbo it and ditch the SC, etc.). I want to thank everyone for the help, the Maxima has been the best car I've owned to date and still is in my mind an absolute amazing car. Unfortunately, I just cannot afford to spend money on the car anymore, it's fun to do it, but I should invest or save the money rather then spend thousands of dollars. I'm in fact wanting to purchase a home. At any rate, I bought a black Lexus LS400 as my new ride, and I have no plans of fixing it up. It's job is to serve as decent transportation for a few years until I decide to spend more money on a car. I got the car with a 36,000 mile 3 year warranty so I shouldn't be spending much money on fixing my car anymore.

Again, thanks to everyone, and good luck. As far as parts, I have no parts for the Maxima, they're all going to the new owner. He is aware of maxima.org and will most likely be posting here, and has plans on selling the SSR's (wants a heavier wheel due to traction issues). He also has plans of selling the exhaust to goto a custom setup, the suspension which is new (AGX + B&G) may be going for coilovers, and finally the SC will most likely go within a year (it's the second geneartion V1, in my opinion the best one vortech made for our cars). I'll tell him to come around and post the stuff for sale when he is ready.

Peace!

Re: I've moved on

Damn Brian, this is a sad day. It is bad enough you are not in SoCal, but now not a Maxima owner.:( I was just telling George that the good days of MCC were back when Brian was around, everyone flocked to see his car. I still remember the good old days when you used to meet up with us all the time, it was nice getting my head slammed back into the seat and like I still say, you have the nicest 4th gen in my books, there is something about it. But all good things must come to an end and I would like to say good luck with the new car and any other ventures you step in. I remember the Malibu meet:laugh: You are a good friend and keep in touch, you know how to reach me.

The LS400 is the one with the V8 right? I bet you miss the quickness of the Maxima and handling. What pulley were you running anyways? FMU disc?

Brian, you've been a huge help to this forum. You've helped me too many times to count. I hope you enjoy your new car, the LS400 is a beautiful car indeed.
Hope to see you on these boards again,

What year LS? My daddy drives one (97). My complaints against it:

1) Throttle has much less response
2) I'm tall, and my head is CONSTANTLY touching the ceiling
3) It's not a Maxima

But they're good cars. Have fun!

gtr_rider 01-11-2003 09:59 PM

I coulda swore you just got a TT 300zx:confused:

sorry to see ya go

:( But all things must come to an end. I have a lot of respect for you and your Max, and it's too bad you won't be contributing to the Max community anymore, but it sounds like you're making totally sensible choices. Good luck.

I was running 3.125 with 8:1 FMU plate. I miss the quickness, but the quickness in the Maxima was so violent (loud, rough, etc.). The Lexus is quick for what it is. I bet it would pull on any stock automatic Maxima (except 02). It's 0-60 is rated at 7.1 seconds, but it feels slow due to how smooth it is. However, I didn't buy it for its speed, I bought it for its refinement, luxury, and durability.

It's a 95 which is identical in every way to a 97. This 95 happen to be cleaner then all of the 97's I saw so I snagged it.

Throttle response is always weaker in auto's then in sticks so I hear yah there. Also, it appears worse cause the pedal is so stiff. Yes it's not a Maxima, it's RWD and quiet, but not as peppy (until I can afford an M5, E55, or RS6, then I will have the best of both worlds).

MaximaRider 01-11-2003 11:07 PM

I remember when u first started out with the Max after your tragic Acura mess (F theives) What about the 300ZX? is that the weekend toy?

Dave B 01-11-2003 11:08 PM

Have fun with the LS400. It will be a sweet cruiser. I'd put some slightly bling-bling 18s on it and some Dynomax/Flowmaster mufflers (mufflers ONLY), remove the intake resonaters, and call it a day. I've heard a LS400 with Dynomax mufflers and it sounded just right. No drone, not loud, just the slight hint of a V8. Stock, the LS400 is WAY too quiet.

As for your buddy getting rid of the SSR to gain traction, he's sorely mistaken. Lighter weight rims hook up better because there is more control over the lighter unsprung weight.

Dave

I'll tell him that, you're a very reputable source Dave, thanks.

To the guy just before who asked about the Z. Well it had some oil leaks and I didn't want to spend $3,000 to get it fixed, that and the paint job wasn't that nice either. Thus, it would've cost me a lot to get the car the way I wanted it. I sold it and made $2500 profit though. Those mods sound tempting, but I don't want to go down the same road as the Maxima (I told myself I wouldn't mod the Maxima).

I may buy a cheap Miata or Porsche 944 and make it a supreme track/handling car, but we'll see.

I thought I saw your Max in the trader. I was looking for another one as a daily driver, but just bought a GTP for ease of modification.

Doesn't it have a top speed of 149 (not that I'd push a 8 yr-old car to that speed)? LS's are about the same price as used M3's I think. My next car will handle, no if ands or buts even if it has only 170 hp. No more tunnel vision on the 0-60 or HP number for me! People are not stupid when they buy 325i's and A4 1.8's. Those cars make these japanese cars look like a joke in the driver feel and handling depts. And they do handle better than Cavaliers and Aleros, unlike some Japanese cars that will remain nameless!

Brian,

Sorry to hear you are moving on, you did a lot to bring the Maxima into the forefront as a modifiable car.

I understand the goal though and wish you the best...things must really be going well there...God I miss Texas...are you getting married anytime soon to that young lady you were seeing?

best wishes...

No marriage yet, yeah man I love Texas. I did quit Dell though, so now I'm at an investment holding firm for some insurance companies. The job security is the best in the world for IT jobs.

To everyone else, thanks for the tips and support!!

Looks like alot of the 97 SE owners have parted with their cars within the last month. Infact, everybody's moved onto RWD cars :D

Demographics are interesting. Very few people have gone from a Maxima to a German car, almost seems like once a person gets a Japanese car which tends to be value-packed with features for less money, they stick with them and miss-out on the tight-*** handling and road-feel of a German car, which tends to cost more new and much more used. If you read audiworld the drivers are just as young as the people here, but I guess their folks have more $$$

BrianV 01-13-2003 07:42 AM

Anton, my car is the same color as yours, but is the newer body style which looks even more conservative, I think your bod looks slightly better, but I like my interior better then yours, also mine has a little more power. Anyways, I got the chrome wheels and are going to dump them on ebay for those gs300's you got. You still selling those, hit me up on IM.

Thanks!
