dyno'd today with VI and JWT ECU

alright well i got my VI on and made it to the dyno today. i havent put my car on the dyno to get a baseline...so i had no idea what to expect. when the operator told me the numbers i was pleased. a group of about 15 of .org members went to a group dyno and had a great time.

well for the numbers....

194.7fwhp - 192.4 tq. SAE corrected. 200.3fwhp uncorrected.

the car is 1996 5-spd SE w/84k miles at time of dyno

my mods are the following.
JWT Popcharger with self-made midpipe.
Warpspeed aluminized mandrel y-pipe
UR UDP
JWT ECU
MEVI

i dyno'd with the heavy 5th gen 17's, and the operator was explaining to me that i could have squeezed out another 6 hp and hit 200 SAE with the sawblades on. oh well maybe next time. i set the VI to open at 5k.

i also made a pull with the stock ecu and VI engaging. the peak HP came to 190.47. on the whole i made 4 peak hp, and an average of close to 15 hp over the whole curve with the JWT ECU. the 7k rpm limiter is so sweet with the ECU and the VI pulls right up to the limiter without any struggle.

i will have the dyno graph tomorrow since the shop seemed to mess up putting it on my floppy, so i have to go back and get it tomorrow. also if anyone cares there is a video of the pull, which should be hosted tomorrow.

there had been a lot of talk about the JWT ECU/MEVI for a couple months now. i just wanted to share my numbers who are interested in this combo. i cant wait to hit the track with these goodies. dare i say 13's? :D you never know. and it will be a goal of mine.

EDIT: added mileage on car and TQ typo

Cool man. I wish I was there, but I had to work and I still didn't get the s-afc yet. I think 13.9 is very possible, especially if you open the exhaust up with 2.5" all the way. Post the vid.

I think he wants to keep it quiet so he can remain a sleeper. Also very good numbers. Can't wait til you post the dyno's

Dave B Feb 2, 2003 11:36 PM

Nice numbers for sure. Where did you get your JWT ECU and for how much? I'm sourcing out a junkyard ECU right now. When I get it then it's time for the JWT. God I need that 7000rpm limiter. At the track it just feels like I'm short-shifting all the gears.

When you get the jwt, are u gonna to set the limiter to 7200 or 7000?

thats one sexy .. strong ***** you got there :D

excellent! Great job! :)

Post that dyno chart up so I can cartest it :naughty:

hey,
i pm'ed you last week to see if you had a stock 4th gen 5-speed dyno sheet. did you ever get that?

Great numbers!!!!!!!!!

dwapenyi Feb 3, 2003 07:45 AM

Wow. Magic numbers! How many miles on your motor? Forget the sawblade 15s for more hp. How about adding a B pipe and muffler. You just might hit 200fwhp SAE corrected:eek: That'll be like breaking the sound barrier NA. Talk about a Top Gun 4th Gen Maxima. Nice:thumbsup:

96BLUMAX Feb 3, 2003 08:26 AM

Very nice. I am pretty sure those are the new high numbers for a NA 4th gen.

Hmmmn....I'm definitely waiting to see what a 7000rpm Maxima dyno curve looks like with MEVI.

Hurry up mang!

Requin6 Feb 3, 2003 08:47 AM

ok well here she goes...got the dyno plot all worked out. sorry i didnt get to post this last night. it seems like there are a couple of wanting eyes for this plot. :D

i also made a typo in the original post on the TQ. i cheated myself a pound or so. i will edit it.

enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Nice

I'm not sure how the typical MEVI curve looks, but it looks like a dip from 5K-5800 from the switchover. You might try delaying the switchover a little longer and see if that helps.

It sure looks like your beast holds power until 6600rpms and then it starts to slightly decline. Is your catback stock? You might have a restriction causing that.

Now I'm really jealous of that JWT ECU!!!:bawling:

yes stock exhaust excluding the Y-pipe. stock, fading by the day clutch as well. i am into the sleeper look, sound and persona so i have a thing against cat-back exhausts. but i would however consider everything up to the muffler if the mood caught me right :D

Keven97SE Feb 3, 2003 09:14 AM

That is a sweet torque curve. BTW your torque scale (Y-axis) is screwed up, doesn't match up with the actual torque #s. We've seen non-VI'd JWT engines make 200-205 ftlbs at the wheels, so again it appears the VI kills ~10 ftlbs from the torque peak. Still, I'd rather have your torque curve over the non-VI'd JWT motor. That motor really is sweet.

My car has almost the same mods as you (VI, Y, intake, stock exh, etc), only I don't have a UDP. Still, I'd expect my car to make similar #s.

I'd definitely go with a 2K+ muffler(matches your rims!) and a Budget B-pipe($160ish) then. Quiet yet good flow.

The catback was just a guess, I'm sure there could be many other reasons, which I'm sure others here will point out soon. It looks to be minimal, but hey there is always room for more. Hehe.

Very very interesting dyno plot. I never figured the VQ would pull that far, but as lots of people here suspected, she has legs...baby!

BTW, you need to go CL-S hunting.

Requin6 Feb 3, 2003 09:24 AM

also another note...in a 4th gear pull, the dyno read 142MPH at the fuel cut in 4th.

96BLUMAX Feb 3, 2003 09:33 AM

Thats pretty fast.:D

HitManSE Feb 3, 2003 09:44 AM

Very impressive #'s for such just bolt ons. 4th gen really have potential alot higher then any1 ever gave them credit for. keep posted.

Anachronism Feb 3, 2003 09:55 AM

Do you have the dyno wihtout the JWT, perhaps both on the same dyno lot for easy compaison? 15 hp average gain , I want a JWT ecu upgrade :bawling:.

96BLUMAX Feb 3, 2003 10:05 AM

Too bad the JWT is so expensive.:bawling:

At least you can actually get a JWT ECU!

For what it's worth, I'd spend DOUBLE that, IF it was available.

Nealoc187 Feb 3, 2003 10:32 AM

Awesome numbers, our setups are identical except for the UDP basically.

I just ordered my JWT ECU with 7200RPM rev limiter a few minutes ago.

Wow that's a nice gain in the midrange with the JWT ECU, and the extra rpms aren't too bad either :p

Now I just wish I could get an ECU.

Dave B Feb 3, 2003 11:02 AM

Did anyone notice that in the A/F graph, the ECU goes into and incredibly rich program at fuel cut?

Requin6-

Where did you get the ECU? I think I've found an ECU.

with the JWT ECU and the USIM...the torque was unbelievable in the midrange. with the VI it mellows out a little bit.

Dave,

I have a S-AFC. I am planning on getiing the JWT ECU as well.. based on Requin6's A/F ratio do you think the S-AFC could be of any help at all?
Thanks.

NmexMAX Feb 3, 2003 11:09 AM

Just a guess, but from the looks of it, this may almost catch us MEVI guys up to the midrange torque we used to have w/ the USIM.

IceY2K1 Feb 3, 2003 11:35 AM

Exactly, what I figured....

The dip from ~5K-5600rpms is the same place the A/F curve dips towards rich(~13.5).

An AFC will fix that, but I wonder why that is happening. Why would the switchover cause the A/F ratio to go rich? Anyone?

Yes, you can lean out the A/F and get more, to a point of course.

However, I'd say that from 5K-5600rpms an AFC would definitely help UNLESS there is more going on then I can see.
