Crash Tested my wife's 2K1 (pics)

OK, here's the deal. Don't go get the wife a snack on Valentines Day morning, and especially don't go get it in her car when it's raining. This really Sucks. Happy Valentine's Day sweety! :(

Here's the link to my Cardomain Site with pics.

I'm perfectly fine. The car isn't totalled. About 6500 to 7000 damages to it. I will tel you guys that Nissan did their homework when it comes to crashing these cars. Even with a 35 mph smack into a telephone pole, I must say that it was extremely smooth. I saw it coming and did what you should never do..... Tensed up. Even then, my bruise from the seatbelt is very minimal, and the car did an excellent job of absorbing the impact. Despite the fact that the car is a mess, I'm very pleased with the engineering now, despite paint chips, hollow doors, rattles, brakes............... OK. I'll say there's at least one good thing about the 5th gens.

Glad to hear that you are ok. Did you still get her the present though?:)

MacAlert Feb 15, 2003 02:14 PM

I say try to get it written off. The car wll never drive the same. Frame looks a little bent up front. Again, you should try to get it written off.

Soul Fly Feb 15, 2003 02:17 PM

just an idea...now that you'll need a front bumper...stillen?

Yeah. She got her Snickers bar and she got the earrings on 2/12/03. She got those early. :D

Don't think so. Not much on the full front bumper from Stillen. I'd love to get the lip though.

I looked long and hard at the car yesterday with a mechanic friend of mine. Where the frame is bent, it doesn't interfere with any of the suspension. The lower suspension is attached to a subframe underneath the car that doesn't even connect to the unibody where it's bent. Besides, I've got a lein on the car, only been paying for 2 years, and with the depreciation on these cars being so high, I'd probably lose my A$$ in the deal. I'll look into it a little more though.

Things are looking up. I've looked the car over real well, and from what I can tell, the parts alone are going to run me only around $2000. Not bad at all. I was expecting alot more. Most of those are just bolt on type stuff, so the labor is only going to get long on the minor frame straightening and the paint and prep work.

prob cos it was a side/front brush impact. Sorry to hear about the ride tho. It sounds like something I would've done (take gf's car out at night and get in trouble K.O.W) Still I like your outlook on life. some of us would feel like the world has ended and you take it like you live to drive another day. That's a really good outlook.
Take care man.

Oh and btw, was it in houston?

Sprint Feb 16, 2003 09:32 AM

she probably said you did it on purpose because she was getting mods to whoop your asss

good to hear your okay...you'll need new headlights, why not upgrade to the 2k2?

Because the 2k1's cost 135 bucks and the 2K2s cost 500+. Insurance company isn't gonna go for that. I can upgrade to Anniversary edition lamps for a dollar more though.

Airbags didn't deploy because the impact was from the side, and it was only at about 35 mph. If I had hit it head on, then they might have deployed.

Thank God you and yours are okay.

Hopefully this has help you to get the whole crash test urge out of your system ;)

Went and picked up the free rental car today. Got a Mitsubishi Galant. It drives OK, but the power is aweful. It's almost as horrible as the interior. The color is the only thing it has going for it.

i'd say go for the HIDS, and Kamikaze front bumper.

You want the car to have a "Kamikaze" right after it's crashed?  Sorry, didn't mean to make light of the situation. It just came across funny to me.

I sincerely hope the car can be fixed well. Glad to hear no one got hurt either.
