[not because I drive an auto]

.......driving through all of this damn snow. I almost feel like getting rid of it and the honda and getting a 4X4. Here in MA we had 20" of snow and driving through it was not pretty. At some points throughout my travels, my front tires wouldn't even grab because there was ice building under the snow that was already there (about 4" covering the roads). Pretty embarrassing.

The Sport A2's were good over ice and even on a 2" covered road but on some of the side roads it was rediculous. The front of the car just wanted to slide sideways into the guardrail.

My lady wants to get rid of both cars to get a Volvo XC90 but I want to keep my Max and get a truck. I love my car but if the weather keeps up like this, I'll have to go over my checks and balances to make the right decisions. I know I don't live in an area where it snows too much but I find no pleasure in driving my Max through all of this mess.

All of you lowered guys, how are your cars handling this snow?

Markets are open today. I got a page from my manager last night telling us its business as usual. I spent the weekend in NYC this weekend and beat the storm back here to MA Sunday evening. I went to see my sis in Coney Island and it started snowing like mad out there so I broke the hell out.

My wife would love me too. She's from San Jose.

Snow sux when its heavy - I can feel the slush just gathering in the fender wells :( Light snow is alright tho :)

I am lowerd with Eibachs and run Re950's which are comparable to the sport A2's. We have not had a huge snow here in chicago this winter. I did have to do a bit of driving right after 4 inches fell. It was not too bad, just had to take it slow.
I know how you feel about wanting something else in the winter, then spring comes and I forgett all about it. During the winter there is only a handfull of days that I have to drive when the roads are not plowed, so it is not a big deal to put up with.

I think these cars handle great in the snow! I have Goodyear Eagle RSA's, nothing special. I had Dunlop Snow tires on my older car, and it did make a difference, but I felt that the car worked just fine with all season tires in the snow.

The key is pratice and careful modulation of the gas. People have been trained to "floor it!" in a FWD car in the snow...that won't get you far.

I drive through the snow a lot. Yes, an AWD car is better, but for FWD, the maxima is one of the best snow car's that I've driven.

I know how you feel!! Where I live in MD we got 20" of snow as well. Thoughts of 4wd or awd SUV have danced inside my head but when I see the prices on SUV's, poor gas mileage/increased fuel cost (especially now), average performance, and increased insurance premiums those thoughts quickly evaporate. I'd rather tough it out for a week in my max. However a WRX with snow tires might work for me.:D

With 20"+ of snow even 4wd trucks and suv's can barely make it around on unplowed roads so I question the usefullness there. The local news have been showing pictures of the national guard in hummers getting stuck!! Another important point is even if you have a 4wd drive vehicle there are plenty of people who don't respect the road conditions and are a greater hazard than the road itself.

For me it's better to just wait and drive very carefully for the next week. If I had a job where I had to be there then I would have a beater 4wd drive vehicle that I wouldn't care if someone bumped into it, unlike a $35k+ Volvo XC90.

Fortunately I caught a lucky break and the lady's work schedule allowed me to drop her off this morning and take her Highlander both today and tomorrow, so I don't have to drive my Maxima with the crap-azz Toyo's on the front. I really hate driving my car in the snow. It's not so much the snow, but rather all of the MORONS here in the DC area that spin, flip, and wreck causing you to stop and lose all momentum. That's when the trouble starts.


You should trade-in for a WRX wagon :D

Well, I guess most of my aggravation is that the snow removal up here sucks and all the city does is complain that they are running out of funds to clean the streets. So where the hell is the tax money going?

I'm sure I'll feel better when I can see some grass but there's like 3 feet of snow in front of my patio.

lol... if there is more then 6.5 inches on the ground, I cant make it (stillen snow plow + lowerd)
But this snow storm was bad, all I saw out there was 4x4 not too many cars, a few WRXs but thats about it.. But hoestyl yes I was driving a 4x4 the past few days and they are really great and all but how many times am I really going to need that 4x4 in the year... not really all that practical if you ask me... plus they eat gas like crazy

I dug mine out but I don't drive my max in the snow...i could probably plow w/ it though :goofy:

Yeah this snow is awful, i'm in MA too and know how you feel. Havent left the house since sunday night:bonk:

I laid low yesterday. Car was OK this morning. I had about 6 inches of snow on my road. I have Dunlop Sport W-10 and they are great in the snow.

Living in PA, it doesn't snow hard enought to make a 4x4 a need here. Compared to my wife's Jetta, the Maxima is a champ in the snow with the "right" driver:)

Between me and the wife, I am the practical one when it comes to cars. She wants a truck because her 2 yuppie girl friends drive Lexus a IS300 and a RX300. We have 2 cars so she can go where she wants to go and so I can go where I want to go at any given time.

My philosophy about 4X4's is the same as you guys too much money to maintain.

The only good thing I can get out of us getting all of this snow is that we won't have any water droughts this year.

I was thinking about moving out of NYC for a while now, but after this winter my mind is made up.
Cali is a liitle to far for me (most of the family is in the east). So I will be looking at some homes in florida.

get some snow tires & JIC coilover. Then you can drive on 4x4 mode in the winter with traction :cool:

I'm 6'3", 270 lb, ultra-wide frame.

I fit great in a 4th Gen.

I also fit great in a WRX, as long as nobody is sitting behind me :)

I fit great in a Civic/RSX too, but for the life of me I just CANNOT fit in any 5th Gen Maxima :laugh: (telescoping wheel would completely solve that)


If you fit in your 4th Gen comfortably and you're about my size, you'd probably fit in a WRX fine also.

I've sat in the WRX and I wasn't comfortable at all. I'm 240 so you have 30 pounds on me. I still felt the like I was in a closet when I tried out the WRX. i'm just used to big cars I guess.

my dad is like you... only drives big cars which means basically lincolns. however he loves stealing my max when i come home for the holidays from school. and i get the lincoln. seems we have some big moderators here. maybe if i put on about 60 lbs i can become a moderator.:p

I think the maxima is an excellent snow car,(as long as it's not 2
inches off the ground). Everybody's talking about spending 20-30 grand on a new 4x4 when all you need to do is spend $3-$400 on some
good snow tires. My max with snow tires is a lot better than most
of the 4x4 that I see on the roads. Snow tires make a huge difference
Besides you'll think that you want a truck now but then when spring
comes you'll be kicking yourself for doing it.

I saw some dude in a 4x4 explorer trying to get his car (covered in snow from tires to windows) trying to get out. This guy was pushing his car so hard and it wouldn't budge. I think this guys was crasy. He finally gave up and walked to his destination.:laugh:

I would've lend him my shovel, but the his stupidity prevented me from doing it. C'mon 20inches of snow and trying to pull that off..:rolleyes:

BTW my max handles great in the snow.

i had a little fun last nite, went out to get food, NOTHING and i mean NOTHING was open besides stop an shop so we picked up some steaks and booked it back to school in the 1ft of snow that had already fallen, i had NO grip, thank God for being able to downshift and the ebrake.;)

You can have 60 of mine. I don't need em :D

Havent left all day...........spot is shoveled.........just not motivated to get out :D
