What's the flaw in my logic here?

Our original equipment radio is made for a specific generation Maxima only and will not fit into other car's slot.

The radio will probably perform without needing repair for the life of the car.

So, there is no incentive for a criminal steal it because it would only fit into another Maxima that doesn't need it anyway.

Therefore, anyone replacing their original radio with an expensive aftermarket model that could be used in many vehicles increases the chance of their car being broken into and vandalized by thieves.

bill99gxe Apr 4, 2003 09:29 AM

The flaw in your logic is believing thieves use such logic to determine which criminal acts they take. :D

95emeraldgxe Apr 4, 2003 09:30 AM

radios do get screwed up and i'm pretty sure they will work on other cars besides the maxima

Not that I'm accusing you of just making things up, but where did you get that statistic? :gotme:

Well, I guess I was wrong. If two org members here had their Bose system fail, then it must be true that there's a 80% fail rate throughout the world for every one ever placed in a Maxima.

I just wonder how such a manufacturer can stay in business with that sort of quality.

I hence a little sarcasm here but face the facts bose is not known for top notch car audio. There home audio is great but my experience with there car audio is crap. Just my opinion :)

gtr_rider Apr 4, 2003 10:24 AM

My bose is dieing but I keep pushing it, screens dead, cd dead, some buttons dont work when you push the first time. :o

There's no reason to get p!ssy. Everyone was being polite and reasonable. You asked what caused him to believe that Bose HU's fail, and two people chimed in to back him up. They were in no way being rude or mean about it. What's the deal? BTW, my Bose head unit crapped out on me, too.

2k2kev Apr 4, 2003 10:57 AM

20,000 members and 4 post that their HU died.. I know there are more but not 15,996 more.

Fact is most radios DO last the life of the car.

And to your logic, you're right and wrong. If you don't have aftermarket your chances are just the same as everyone else. If a thief is looking for a radio, you increase your chances of a break-in if you have an aftermarket. But, a lot of police depts. consider a radio to be a theft of ... forgot the word. It's usually taken after the thief is in the car and is looking for something to grab (so bill99gxe is right).

Hey, I'm not getting p!ssy. I was only pointing out that the few Bose failures here are statistically meaningless vis-a-vis the overall quality of all systems installed as original equipment in Maximas. Don't take my sarcasm so personally.

Perhaps we should do a poll thread. Of course, we would need at least 500,000 responses to ascertain if there really is a 80% failure rate.

Let's not forget that the HU (in 5th gens at least) aren't made by bose, nor are the speakers. Their placement is. You can't really fault bose for the 5th gens (i'm not sure about other gens that's why i'm only referring to them). The headunit is clarion, correct ?

slavik'sMAX Apr 4, 2003 11:17 AM

my HU carped out as well...........in fact this happened to 4 out of 5 cars that I owned (only one enissan though :))

Dreizehn Apr 4, 2003 11:36 AM

Well, I'm pretty sure there are many people on this Earth with a Bose system that will have the same complaints.

I upgraded my system because I love music and couldn't stand listening to the budget system that comes with the 97 GXE's. It sounds horrible. I upgraded my system because I wanted better sound quality and a CD player. Better yet, I added a Sirius Satalite unit so I can listen to more news channels instead of listening to 1 local channel. Overall, it's definitely worth it.

I wish I could find the link to that Maxima a while back on ebay with an AC/Delco stereo out of a Cutlass or something... if that's not a red flag I don't know what is.

Triocet Apr 5, 2003 03:19 AM

i own a fully loaded 95 SE, and my Bose stereo is great, the sound quality is awsome, and there is abosultely nothin wrong with the HU or the CD Changer.

Street Reeper Apr 5, 2003 08:09 AM

I can answer that, because I need a remote, all that work of reaching up to operate the stereo is too much
