www.nopinationals.com

registration is already up but i haven't dug into the classes yet

luckee2bhere May 4, 2003 07:58 PM

I dont know how the classes work but on the site it says there is a conservative class. minor bolt ons, no body work.

yeah there was conservative and mild last year. basically if you're lowered with a kit you're in mild along with the wild to radical cars. kinda sucks

matt calder May 4, 2003 08:11 PM

:wall:

Shadow May 4, 2003 08:11 PM

Ah, but there were plenty of cheaters werent' there? Rules are rules, and it's not a relative definition. Just because there are heavily modified cars in the mild class doesn't mean that certain Maximas with kits/TV's/rims or similar stuff and such should enter in conservative because their cars would lose against heavier competition. The rules are pretty clear. The owners shouldn't get to determine if their car is conservative or mild. If you're in the wrong class and you know it, then the trophy doesn't mean anything. Petition NOPI for a new class or something, don't bend the rules because you don't agree with them. Just my little vent for the day.

Chris91SE May 4, 2003 08:23 PM

Jeff you're venting to the wrong person. I was just saying that the classifications aren't as ideal as they could be. I enter my car based on the rules. I agree there are "cheaters" but hey that's on them and there's not much you can do about it. IMO they should be a little bit more strict on the classifications kind of like carlisle. If you were misclassified you were disqualified. no ifs ands or buts

Chris91SE May 4, 2003 08:26 PM

I guess most people won't know what I'm talking about. What Carlilse had was an online registration system and you had to check off what mods you had. The points were added up and certain ranges equaled certain classes. The judges were walking around w/ printouts of the registration so they could see if a car was misclassified. Certain mods like body shaving, turbo, SC, etc etc etc do weigh heavier in the classifying...

luckee2bhere May 4, 2003 08:31 PM

I got this directly from their site:

Class Definitions
Conservative Allows minor bolt on upgrades but no body kits or radical wings.
Mild Allows any bolt on accessories and upgrades, any bolt on body mods and shaved bodywork.
Wild Chopped, suicide doors, tilt fronts, radical engine swaps and anything goes.

The body kit rule is kinda lame if you ask me. You could have just an intake and a bodykit and you have to sign up for Mild. Well you dont have to but you know.

Shadow May 4, 2003 08:55 PM

Oh no Chris, I'm not venting at you, sorry if it came out that way. I just saw too many cars at NOPI, not just Maximas that were in the wrong class. Some people I knew even admitted to me that they were entering a lower class to get a trophy. And I agree that they should be more strict about classes, but it is NOPI, not exactly the most organized bunch of guys around.

The only other thing I would like to see improved is having the same judge/judges for the same type of car. Different judges have different criteria and it just messes stuff up when you have cross judging.

Shadow May 4, 2003 09:20 PM

This is very true. Or at least have more professional judges like at HIN, or those big shows where they are a lot more detail oriented and impartial. There at least, if 2 judges go through the same class of cars, their scores would be more comparable. NOPI judges are just whomever they can get for the job at that time.

luckee2bhere May 4, 2003 10:38 PM

i guess i think alittle different from you guys cause i couldnt give two sh!ts about a trophy...I am sure however my car stands while the show is going on i will know i enjoy it and thats all i care bout. I am more into racing though.

Chris91SE May 5, 2003 04:43 AM

I don't care about the trophy either and the way judging is done may be a part of that. who knows..

Blu May 5, 2003 04:46 AM

Hopefully you guys won't get judged 10 mins after arriving whilyou are still cleaning the cars. You would think the retard judges would skip and come back to you if they see you are cleaning from the rain the night before:rolleyes:

that cracked me up...they didn't even look at the cars. they kinda just walked around them at a distance. guess they have too many cars to judge in a day... :gotme:

maybe blake will be done

Shadow May 5, 2003 11:27 AM

Nothing like a little friendly rivalry. Just remember, beat me again and you're fired.

It's been 4 years now at NOPI without a trophy. Ah someday, then I can retire. Kidding, NOPI is a meaningless show, I want a HIN win, then I'll be happy.
