what's the CHEAPEST price you've ever paid for gas?

so living in california, i'm gettin raped by gas prices, and as larry (chinaonnitrious) pointed out in his thread, gas prices may go up again :(

what's the cheapest price for gas you've ever paid? I remember a 3 years ago when i first got my license, a brand new gas station (USA Gasolene) opened up a mile away from an Arco and those both competed until gas prices went down to 99 cents for 89 octane!! of course i didn't have my maxima back then and didn't care about octane rating.. damn those were the good ol days.

how about yourself? And FREE doesn't count

I worked at a gas station during high school. We had a gas war the summer of 1970 and were selling it at $.22 a gallon. Yeah, I've got one foot in the grave.

njmaxseltd May 19, 2003 06:38 AM

I can't remember if it was 2000 or 2001--but I remember filling up in Jersey going to the shore in the summer at $0.899 for regular unleaded (let's not start, don't go there). It was so cheap I always told them to let it spill out and over the side of the car, I can afford it!

MaineMax May 19, 2003 05:01 PM

3 gallons for a $1.00 in 1971

Quicksilver May 19, 2003 05:05 PM

I remember my mother filling up her '68 Camaro when I was little (living in Lincoln, NE) with a $5 and getting change back (premium fuel).

I remember those good old days. Now the prices are draining my wallet and sending me to the poor house. :bawling:

tifosiv122 May 20, 2003 05:50 AM

79 cents...WaWa gas, before Desert Storm.

Erik

MarkP May 20, 2003 06:01 AM

If modern times aren't counted, 18 cents/gal for Ethel during the gas wars in the mid '60's. I cound fill the 22 gal tank of my '59 Buick Invicta for less then $4.

99Maxima5sp May 20, 2003 06:05 AM

it was as low a .90 here in FL some years back, but the lowest ive ever paid for gas...hmm, premium, cant remember paying less than 1.20?! Paying 1.58 now, better than 1.87 during the war, thats for sure...
