Overton's Topside Oil Changer - anyone use?
 

I searched back a year and didn't find anything for Overton's or Topside Oil Changer.

It sucks the oil from the dip stick tube, rather than having to take the drain plug out. A friend has one for his mercedes and he loves it... calls it the "clean oil changer." A bimmer website claims it leaves a pint of oil in the pan so that place doesn't recommend it. My mercedes friend says one of their fanatics drained the pan, then used the Topsider and got more oil that didn't drain so they're all in love with the thing... even his mercedes dealer uses it when they do changes for customers.

It'd be nice for me because I really don't have anywhere to put the car up on ramps... anyone use it, or something similar?

Thats for boats, it does leave oil in the pan, we have one of those on the boat I work on. If you want something really trick and easy, search on boatus.com or westmarine.com and look for electric oil changers. You can hook this up, hit a button and bam, the oil is being pumped out from the drain plug. Just an idea. Chris

adunno, I wouldn't trust any opinions unless I saw factual evidence.

Buy one, fill up 4 quarts, and then see how much it sucks out :D

That's why I'm asking. My mercedes friend did that experiment and got more oil out using the Topside. Apparently Bimmer people did the experiment and didn't get as much... that's why I'm asking if anyone uses it or something similar.

A lot of it has to do with the baffling inside the pan and locations of oil plugs. Remember, a boat engine runs alot harder than any other engine on this org or for the streets for that matter and they don't have problems. Chris

I think the dipstick tubes in boat engines go all the way to the bottom of the pan to make sure you get most of the oil out. Do the tubes in car engines do the same?

it depends on the car... like I said above, mercedes uses it (my friend said his dealership uses it to change oil if you bring it in for an oil change.)

What I'm asking is... has anyone used one in a maxima??
