spark plugs: what's the difference between the different kinds of metal?
So... I know there are platinum, copper, and iridium spark plugs. From what I've heard and read about...
copper conducts the best... but have to change every 30k miles platinum lasts longer... change every 60k miles iridium is better than platinum? change a little more than 60k miles... I'm not sure if that's the logic behind the different metals... maybe someone can gimme a more detail explanation between the 3 metals. Also, are there other kinds of metal used for sparkplugs? I'm not asking about the brands... (most likely sticking w/ NGK). Thanks guys! |

I want to know also. The platinums lasts twice as long but costs 3-4 times more than the coppers. If you're a home mechanic and do your own work, it would make a lot more sense to use the coppers. What other advantages does the platinums have?

Whatever you do don't buy the iridiums off ebay from ALLTRAC725. I paid a month ago and still have no plugs. Some say iridiums are the way to go and other say plats are fine. I guess it's more of what you have the money and time for.
