sorry/ damn maxima.org was down again.
i can't shift out of park when the car is on, i have to stop the car, turn the key one click then shift to neutral, then start the car and then shift to drive in order to move the car. once it's in park, i can't shift the shifter out of park. |

altima/maxima have same 4speed tranny so i guess u can buy what sloppy said
also when u hit hte brake do you hear the "click" from the sifter area? |
Yeah after 6 years my car was hard to get it out of park and into drive. Took a little muscle. Its probably easy to fix if you look at it. The shifter is pretty basic.

according to the manual its says something about the reverese lights. if the lights are blown then the car wont shift out of park. I know it makes little sense, but i think its really in the owners manual

I spilled some coke in there a few days before I had the same problem. All I would recommend to do, and it's a 5 min job, is to open up the housing, and wd-40 everything up...the piece your looking for you can find by pushing on the break, you shold be able to feel it trying to move. It has a wire connected it that allows it to shift out of park. Like I said...wd-40, and I bet you will be a lot happier

Do any of you ever opened OWNERS MANUAL ? No.
" if the selector lever cannot be moved from the P position while the engine is running and the brake pedal depressed, the stop lights may not work." check stop light before you start spraying wd-40. and read owners manual . I hope you are not in 10-15 %who can't. |
My lights worked just fine newb
