Sadler and Shadow's Not so Secret Project

A little project I've been helping my brother with. Basically 2 weeks of continual cutting, measuring and wiring culminating in 9 hours at Exhaust Wizard today welding it all together created this.

Don't mind the mild steel pipe and unground welds...it gets pulled apart for complete grinding and chrome on Monday. It runs and idles fine but won't really see boost until we get it to the dyno. T3/T04E combo with an intercooler that's way too big to properly fit on a Maxima.

Now if Sadler will just man up and actually boost the car past 6psi when it's all tuned and chromed out all that work will possibly worth it.

gtr_rider Aug 15, 2003 10:15 PM

I knew about this somehow :) Looks good.

Max4Speed Aug 15, 2003 10:16 PM

Looking SWEEET!

Mishap Aug 15, 2003 10:28 PM

well, all the people they contacted for help and all the posts they made asking questions about it probably made it very obvious but it's still an unveiling. I'm just not thinking too clearly anymore after being in that boiling hot shop the entire day and driving 100+ miles running errands for the install.

BigDogJonx Aug 15, 2003 10:44 PM

I would think you would have the MAF on the non charged side? hmmm

Looks sweet, More pics :) it kind of begs the question of why no MEVI?

jason=drives like an old lady :wall:

The maf is in the same spot as the SC

thebigsadler Aug 16, 2003 09:22 AM

well, if only the car ran.. last night it couldnt go above 2500 rpms do to an unfortunate misplacing of a hose clamp under the throttle cable, but fixed that and took it for a spin, hit boost 2 times, felt good and then had 0 vacumm and car wouldnt move. back to the drawing board to trouble shoot i guess. if you have any ideas or knowledge, post them in the turbo/sc forum under the post i made about throwing CEL codes.

oil return is tapped into the valve cover by none other than ramius83, thank you eric.

mafs was kept on the charged side, not sure if it is going to work out, it works for the SC guys, so we thought we'd stick with that...

no mevi because i am not a huge fan of the look of it, nor losing some low end.. i am not all about speed, especially on an unbuilt motor.

long time coming, cant thank justin and jeff enough, now just need to get it running all reliable like and maybe reassemble some stuff.

i dont think i will be at nopi this year chris, i have 2 shows right around that weekend and it's a long haul.

sneaky sneaky justin posting this.

it's all good man...it's looking great though. i'll get to see it again one of these days.

it sits about 1.5" lower than the center crossmember under the car, looks a lot lower than it really is, but the car sits pretty low. with my old air ride setup, i would be laying all these pipes out.

when welding i had to jump in and ask for a few things to be tweeked, some thought i was being an asss, but i knew that some angles and longer pipes would bring it up just enough ;)

ill get some pictures when its all cleaned up and shiny.

i just want to get it running fine right now.

Jason has very poor communication skills...:wall:

Ramius83 Aug 16, 2003 09:26 PM

It is a great setup. After doing Jason's oil feed line and tapping his valve cover for him, I felt that it is a great kit. They have a LOT going on this. I just can't wait to see it after all the chrome......

Re: Sadler and Shadow's Not so Secret Project

Are you planning on fabricating one for your prelude or do you have one in there? I am the guy you raced at the track last september in the black maxima and the guy that fixed shadows belt last August. Dont know if you remember me?

That looks nice you guys keep up the good work.

Shadow Aug 17, 2003 07:16 AM

I'd like to make a note that after a little more research, Jason found that his charge pipe had blown off the throttle body during that test drive which is pretty much the reason for the stalling and the 0 vacuum reading.

We'll be fabbing one up for his Prelude pretty soon. Just have to figure some stuff out on that car. Then we'll fab one up for my car.

And justin definitely remembers you. All he can ever talk about is how you whooped him at the track that night :)

That should not be too hard for his car since he has headers it will sit right there all gases exiting to spin the turbines. They lined both of us up that night, we were both trying to line up against others.

thebigsadler Aug 17, 2003 09:50 AM

Well, the car is finally up and running. Kept blowing charge pipes off for a little while, but after tightening everything up, it's all good. He's been terrorizing my neighborhood all morning.

Just have to make sure everything is running good today, then we break it all down to ceramic coat and chrome everything.

How did you get the bumper back on with that big intercooler in the way? It looks like the top of the IC is about where the bumper should be.

Got M?:D

Sprint Aug 17, 2003 04:04 PM

you going to put the bumper support back?

Synki Aug 17, 2003 04:25 PM

What are the specs on your T3/T04E? AR? You running a stg3 or 5?

thebigsadler Aug 17, 2003 05:02 PM

This is Jeff (Shadow) just using Jason's SN right now.

The IC is perfectly placed to fit behind his M bumper. bumper has a ton of room behind it. I think the IC is one of the biggest ones on a Max right now, core size is 25"x9x3.5". Almost impossible to fit behind the stock bumper.

The turbo specs are T3/T04E Stage 3 wheel, 60 trim, .63 A/R.

And we finally took it for a ride where we could hit full boost. The car is crazy. He eased into it from a roll in 1st, and as soon as boost hit around 10mph, the tires lit up. Same in 2nd gear. 1st gear was pretty much useless. We never even got to redline at any point during the drive, we had to back off at 5K due to the speeds and roads.. Boost started at about 3K and by a little before 4K, we were at 7psi.

thebigsadler Aug 17, 2003 05:34 PM

This is Jason again:

When i get back to jax my body guy is fabbing up a bumper support out of 2" steel tubing, he is going to make 2 rows of it and fit it all around the bumper on the inside, like stock. The design on this bumper was extremely poor and doesn't warrant any kind of OEM replacement or fitting, lucking my IC pipes wrap under the fog light holes and not through them, guess my IC was a little big. heh.

All I can say is that if the car keeps running like it did today with having the fender liners coming off every two seconds :smash: I will be extremely happy with this setup. I drive like a woman and I will be the first to admit it, boost owns me.
