Feels like I'm driving a new car!
Over the weekend, I got the following stuff done.
- Knock sensor replaced, no more ghetto bypass resistor. - Lag around 2500rpm fixed?? Guess it didn't like the bypass resistor... :gotme: - New front brake pads and resurfaced front rotors. - New rear brake pads. - Vacumed/detailed interior. Washed exterior, cleaned wheels. - New Dunlop SP Sport A2's all around. :D My 99 has Cali-spec emissions with all of that extra swirl control valve garbage in the way so it was just impossible to get to the knock sensor via the "bloody stump" method of reaching underneath the intake manifold. So we had to do it the long way and remove the upper and lower intake manifolds and all of the garbage in the way. :slant: What a PITA! Anyhow, the new Dunlops are great (old ones were pretty bald, very little wet traction), brakes are no longer warped and squealing (was down to the wear bars on the rears), and no more dust/lint/crap on the inside after vacuuming and cleaning. aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh  |
Sweet man
It feels like I'm driving a different car too. The temps finally dropped in Kansas City and instead of upper 90s and 100s, it's been in the lower 70s :ben: |
Yeah, I've noticed the weather has been getting a bit cooler also. VQ's do not like hot temps. Torque is coming back. :D
|
Good choice on the tires. I recently bought Dunlop SP 2000's and love 'em!! Great in the rain!!!
|
good job on all the work. today my max was fast as hell b/c of the cool weather. i am loving it.
|
Good Going !
nice work, that was quite a bit of stuff you did .. all i did was wash the chariot about 4 times over the weekend. the love bug season is in and these bugs are murder on the car ! |

Note: *I* did not do the work. :shiner:
I was up visiting my parents in PA for the weekend, so we dropped the car off with this shade-tree DIY guy who is a mechanical engineer / plant manager at my dad's company and works on cars on the side. :) My dad and I probably could have managed, but for $120 labor for all that and the experience of a guy who has been working on cars his whole life, why even bother. :D Would have loved to stay and watch/help, but we had other things to do unfortunately. Gotta give proper credit where credit is due. ;) |
Sweet. I may have to do the new knock sensor thing, just to see if it helps. Time to get a water sprayer for your VQ.
;) |
i get that lag around 2500 as well...i really want to change my knock sensor and i'm tired of waiting for codes...
|
My KS (110K miles) was just replaced yesterday as well. The car definitely seems to have more power than before. On a side note, Turbo95Max helped me replace the KS with no more than 2-3 min of actual labor time. No bloody knuckles or anything of that sort. Actually, it seemed pretty darn easy. hahahah :)
|
oh yeah? where ya located calsonic? wanna get my ks out? :D

stevtec, did they mount your tires right? i went to costco on friday to have mine mounted...thought nothing of it.
went to get lifetime alignment ($119 is cheap!) and they said "your fronts are reversed" sure enuf, stamped on the outside, they say "this side in" Went back to Costco and they fixed it right away. I hope the tires are ok...only drive 10mi on them. Jae |
Steve - How much did you pay to get your rotors resurfaced? I'm trying to decided if i should have that done or buy new front rotors.
|
nice.. i wish my car would drive like new!
|
how hard is it to change the knock sensor on a 2k cali spec, how much and how do u know when its time, i also suffer from a 3000-4000 rpm lag
