need help quick with a/f gauge
Just installed it on my 3rd gen ve....turned the car on, and it just lights up on rich..just one bar lights up on the right side all the way down..whats wrong with it? is it defective?

bump..hello????

Mine doesnt do anything half the time. The other part of the time it just blasts back and forth, then sometimes sits on rich, then sometimes on lean, then of course randomly blinks. It's basically just a useless light show. Get used to it. :) |
i got the autometer phantom one..i know its the right wire because i got under the car and checked resistance from the o2 sensor to the wire on the ecu...anyone have a pin diagram for the ve ecu so i can double check..
I dont have a diagram off hand but I personally wouldnt waste your time double checking
It's just a light show man |
also..i tapped the power from the ecu and just ground the other wire on a metal bolt connected to the metal frame..

so..its stuck on the rich side with one bar..are you telling me its gonna move back and forth later on...

i just thought my af gauge is defective...ny96max sold it to me..
Mine does the exact same thing as James said, at idle it will be off more than on, and if your decellerating, it will generally turn 'off' aswell. I just installed mine not too long ago, so I'm still fascinated with the lights and would rather watch the gauge then the road, but soon that will wear off ;) I find my volt meter to be more entertaining than the A/F gauge. hehehe
you should have tapped wire #29, it is white IIRC. tap the gas and the gauge will normally bounce back and forth once or twice, if anything I'll leave it in so I can entertain my passangers (if I ever have any). |
well..i tapped the gas and the light never moved..it stayed on rich..also..i have my safc installed..and at 1k rpm, we lowered the fuel going in..and the light never moved, it stayed on rich. the car was about to die since we were cutting the fuel with my safc..the light should of moved but it didnt...im still thinking mine is defective
i checked resistance from the actual o2 sensor which was the white wire, and the wire from the ecu which is white and it had resistance.my o2 is not bad..its new..i just replaced it during the spring time..
sounds to me like you have the wrong wire. on the 4th gen you have to tap the blue wire . i dont know about 3rd gens
well..the ve has only 1 o2 sensor..its right before the cat..i checked resistance from the ecu wire directly to the o2 sensor wire and it had resistance meaning its the same wire..
yes but if its a heated sensor it will have a heat wire and a signal wire
its funny you say this cause I had the exact same problem. I think it might have been from an exhaust manifod leak and that has now been fixed but i just recently took my gauges out :(
i have no exhaust leak..im assuming its a heat sensor but there is only a red, black and white wire..
isnt the red, and black wire the power and ground or could they be something else?
if your taping from the O2 sensor harness itself, it will be the white wire. Its much easier just to take off the Panel covering the ECU, and tap wire #29. IIRC there is a special procedure for OHMing an O2 sensor, I dont remember though. If you look at the ECU from the drivers of the car -the side the wire harness plugs into, the wire you want will be on the top row, inbetween the center 10mm bolt and the right side of the ecu (shifter side). The wire you want is the 10th one to the right of the 10mm screw, it is white, and is on the top row. Just incase you wanted to verify that you have the correct wire, and also because when I searched, I could not find out which wire to hook it up to and I had to read the diagrams and actually open the ECU to figure out the Terminal Layout.
the wire is not white..i counted ten to the right starting from the 10mm bolt...
you sure its not the 9th one?because i counted 9 to the right of the bolt on the top row and it was a white wire
well.i hooked it up to the 9th wire to the right of the bolt..test drove it..at idle, it doesnt light up..but when i press the gas it goes to rich then back to lean then it turns off...the funny thing is when i had it on the other wire, i turned it to the on position, and the gauge lit up but with this wire, i turned it to the on position, and it didnt light up..
sorry, I dont know why I was thinking the 10th wire, it would be the 9th wire like you said. I dont know how I messed that up seeing as its terminal #29, i should have made the connection.
Anyway, you have it hooked up properly now ;) as for just turning the key to the on position, the engine has to be running for the O2 sensor to get readings that will register on the gauge. |
i guess its true..when at idle, the gauge is off but when i gas it it goes rich then after i let go it goes off..
i dont even know why it doesnt read during idle..that sucks..
I say just scrap it...should have gotten a voltage reading A/F gauge much more meaningful and USEFUL than a bunch of flashing lights
matter offact can't you just run the blue wire mod off your AFC to read o2 voltage?? |
and you accused me of selling you a defective gauge?... The gauge works perfectly when installed correctly so dont even think of accusing me of scamming you. Ive been on the Org for like 3 years now and have sold plenty to people here and never had one person complain about anything.
i know on my car there is a white wire under the hood that leads directly my front o2 sensor... then again im a 4th gen :o Ant |
sorry about that..usually i dont buy used stuff so bare with me..
