I was looking to clean up my engine compartment this summer, but I had a few questions. I was going to paint everything black and polish my valve cover, etc. What products did you guys use for the polish? I've read about Easton products but never found any on their website. I was looking for a good polish for the valve cover, and I also need to redo some of the finish on my wheels. Any suggestions? Also for those of you who've done some of this work is it best to sand everything by hand? I have no problem sanding everything down by hand, but I have very little experience with sanding. I'd also prefer not to spend lots of money on a dremel, power sander, etc.
Thanks.

Hope this helps

I just started cleaning up my engine bay. I am verry lucky that my buddy just opened a garage and let me use part of it for what ever I want to do. The first thing I did was take some degreaser and a paint brush to clean all the greasy spots. Then I sprayed some engine cleaner and sprayed the whole engine, after sitting and waiting for 15 min I took a hose and washed it all off, the rest I cleaned off with a rag. The only thing I painted so far is the air intake manifold, and the rad rings that hold the rad in place. Sand all the parts by hand. A dremel would be nice for smaler parts. My friend lets me use his sand blaster.

I don't like the dremel tool, the sanding attachments are expensive and seem to last only seconds. Also, you have to be very careful not to "coin" the surfaces you're working on.
