Ok,

Brian Hasty at http://www.fastbrakes.com has put together a deal for us. For those that are not aware, I purchased a wilwood kit from him for my CRX and decided to see what he can do with the Maxima. I got word from him today that if we can get 10+ orders, he will sell a kit for the maxima for $800. The kit will consist of rotors(~12.2" X 1.25"), calipers(Wilwood 4 piston), and mounting hardware...

for $800... yes, eight hundred dollars.

Please post on here and let me know if you are interested. Once we get close enough, i'll send him a note and get this deal started.

I'll see about getting some pictures and more detailed info(things like brake pads etc). I just got a short note from him this morning...

This is all 4th gen for sure. Also, I think most if not all 3rd gen can use this kit as well because they are the same brakes. This might even fit on the 5th gen... not sure yet.

Pmp-n8a Feb 25, 2001 07:48 AM

2000 max included?

focker2889 Feb 25, 2001 08:03 AM

Shing-

is that your CRX at their website?

after visiting the website I came up w/ two questions.

1) front only?
2) will that affect ABS?

No it's not...
Effect ABS? not sure, I havn't been under the car in a while, I'll look today.
Fronts only yes... no reason for rears unless you just want some, but they don't have any for the max rears.

theblue Feb 25, 2001 08:05 AM

I could be interested.. but I would need to know the answers to the questions already asked, plus what sort of clearance issues are there? will these work with our SE rims?

Shingles Feb 25, 2001 08:58 AM

Regarding ABS..

should not effect ABS... the reason is the sensor is not in the caliper and is not dependent of the rotor. They system consists of a mangnetic sensor and a tooth rotor on the driveshaft. Unless the sensor is mounted on the caliper bracket, which last time I checked wasn't, it should not effect the operation of the ABS.

Confused Feb 25, 2001 09:35 AM

interested but waiting for pics, etc

i'll change my wears now.

DanNY Feb 25, 2001 09:37 AM

questions..would it clear the stock wheels? new master cyl needed? i assume it doesn't use the stock brake lines. how much are brake pads and rotors if replacements are needed?
thanks!

come on you know we like pix!

What would it take to install a kit like that which wasn't made for the Maxima?

I'll work on pics, but really if you are only going to wait till there's pictures to buy this kit, you are doing it for the wrong reason. Stock Maxima caliper is 1 piston with stock rotors being 10.8". This kit gives you Wilwood race grade 4 piston caliper with a 12"+ rotor... the kit is for braking... it'll look good, but that shouldn't be the number one reason to get it.

I will say now, I don't think it will clear stock rims. So that might be a bummer... but I'll find out.

Maximamike Feb 25, 2001 10:59 AM

It's not a Honda kit. Bryan will make a kit for the Maxima based on his Honda ones..

Shingles Feb 25, 2001 11:02 AM

Err Russ, read my post, the kit IS FOR THE MAXIAM. Your question made it seem like you want to install it on something BESIDES the Maxima.

Obviously..

Shingles Feb 25, 2001 11:12 AM

well, more reason why perhaps the maxima is subpar Russ? Smaller brakes than the Sentra? Then again, the sentra isn't that much lighter than the Maxima...

Obviously it's going to be bolt on... the kit is made for the Maxima.

Sentra weighs 2650lb, Maxima weighs 3080-3150 lb normally. Big difference. Yeah it has smaller brakes than the Sentra which is stupid. LOL Nissan wasn't smart then, maybe they are now.

Now what about the heatshield, etc? Is there gonna be a need for cutting?

CoOlKidS1979 Feb 25, 2001 11:18 AM

Drop me an email, I definatly be buying one of these.
Thanks

Maximamike Feb 25, 2001 11:18 AM

Yeah, no kiding Nissan is stupid Russ. They come out with a whole new engine in 95 and it isn't even faster than the VE. Stupid huh? Ahahahahaha..

Chebosto Feb 25, 2001 11:28 AM

DOH!

he beat us to it.

Nabil, martin, n me, were working on the braket for the Wilwood Super LIte 2A 4 piston calipers and 12 inch skyline rotors..

well. our target pricing range would be the same. ~ $700-800.00

the wilwood calipers are relatively cheap, $249 a piece, it's the rotors that are a grip...

then the bracket just needs to be made, and that' it....

OgreDave Feb 25, 2001 12:16 PM

Interested..

You money pit sonuva... :p

if this only worked: :gratitude:

ohboiya Feb 25, 2001 03:47 PM

question ...

will this b overkill 4 normally street driving? i admit I'm going 4 loox but I don't want performance 2 worsen by going 2 racing rotors & calipers ...
ciao

Dammit Shing,
You should have posted this a month earlier =)
I just installed my stillen brake kit today!
the installation went smoothly but it made some noise at the begining. it needed an extra washer in the bracket to clear the rotors...

Re: question ...

Over kill? Perhaps... but at this price, there's no reason why any one would not upgrade stock maxima brakes. Put it simply, 4th gen brakes SUCK.... way undersized.

Even if you think about brake pads, and perhaps SS lines, that's another $200 tops... this is probably the best insurance you can buy for your Maxima. :)

mingo Feb 25, 2001 06:32 PM

how do they compare to the AP big brake kits?? i'm thinking of gettin a six piston brake system. does the rotors and callipers come with stainless steel brake lines? how bout brake fluid?? preferably redline?

Pmp-n8a Feb 25, 2001 06:57 PM

again....will this kit fit the 5th gen?

he said it would fit the 4th and 5th but prolly not hte 3rd.. and it might not clear stock wheels.. so that means new rims too.. so total it all up to 800+2000= 2800 rim and brake package.

Shadow Feb 25, 2001 07:42 PM

Damn, that is a good price. I paid $500 for my 300Z brake upgrade, if this had been around then, I would have gotten this one in a heartbeat. But I'm still interested in this kit, since I put on the 19"s, the Z brakes don't seem to be adequate, a lot more pedal pressure is needed than before.

Shingles Feb 25, 2001 07:43 PM

No no, it will fit 4th gen, most 3rd, maybe 5th.

I am going to get details.. such as:
1) will it fit OEM style lines.
2) what kinda rims will it fit?
3) brake pads etc...

I'll hopefully get more answers tomorrow.

I think even with pads and lines the price should probably be about $1000. This is still more than 50% cheaper than the AP kit. I can't say without tests how they compare, but I wll say I doubt highly that the AP kit is two times better than this kit.
