Hey all, I recently bought that paint pen that courtesy nissan sells and I have to say that thing is the sh!t. It is definitely worth the $12. It's got a clear coat on the other side of the pen so it is not just paint. Just thought I would share in case anyone else planned on buying it. I will try to post some pics of the differences...I have touched up a few spots on my max today but I have plenty more to go...maybe by tomorrow I will have some pics.

Me too. Bought one, but haven't used it yet. Come spring I'll have to touch up all the hood chips from the winter season. :(

Any problems with it drying out and not being able to be used a second time. Thats the only bad thing I've heard about those pens.

Ok everyone, here are the pics I promised...I think they turned out pretty good. Oh and as far as the tip drying up..since I used it yesterday it hasn't dried out..but it says you just take the tip off and put it in laquer thinner.

Interesting. I ahve some scratches on my rear bumper that need to be taken care of. If the scratch-x doesn't do it, I might have to buy some of this stuff.

For $12 I'll give that stuff a shot in the spring time. I have a couple of minor scratches and I wasn't that impressed with Scratch X

Keep in mind that very dark colours like black are (ironically, given how "delicate" black is) actually easier to touch up than light, metallic colours....

You're still better off with an abrasive polish if you've got scratches that don't go through the paint. Touchup paint isn't going to work very well on deep, hairline scratches, and polish isn't going to help at all for most of the scratches that touchup paint is suited for.

Wait a couple weeks and the touch up paint will turn brown. You have to let the touch up paint dry for a day or 2 before applying the clear coat over it. I used that GARBAGE on my hood and now I have these brown spots on the hood. Waste of money IMO.

Used the Glacier pearl on my '02 SE and the paint pen is great for small stuff. The white is a bit whiter however and I did wait at least two days (some longer) before applying the clear coat. I did this about three weeks ago. Waxed car last week with meguires. Touch up areas are still whiter and no browning.

Never heard of this browning before..plz explain.

White paint won't get brown. I have a black car and the touch-up is also black but with a flat, brown look to it.

Do you have any pics by chance? I would like to see what you are talking about so I can watch out for it.

BTW, Courtesey is not the only Nissan place that sells these. I got mine from a dealership in OKC.

The Glacier Pearl touch up just dotn look right to me, its hard to duplicate the "tri coat" thing in a touch up deal. Tried them on our 350 and Maxima and it made them look worse, both are QX1.

I'll try to take some from different angles.

Even though it is a bit whiter, you do have to be up close to tell, and it still is a major improvement over noticable chips with bare sheet metal showing through. Definatley looks better after being done.

It doesnt look like it did the kind of "touchup" I thought it would.

Grrr...so there was sort of a dust storm down here the other day and I don't have a garage so all the dirt stuck to the touch up paint!!! WTF do I do now...can I wash it and try to polish....or am I screwed?? Any suggestions...Big D?

What do you mean dust got stuck to the touchup paint? Did you apply more coats just before this happened or something? :confused:

Just try washing it and see if that takes it off. I'd hesitate to try and polish out dirt that is embedded in it... If you have clay you could try that, but at the worst you could always dampen a paper towel or something with lacquer thinner and give them a gentle wipe. Be aware that this may screw up the appearance if it's a metallic colour though, since all touchup paints are lacquer-based and lac. thinner will dissolve it (even years later JFYI).

KH3 is the code for superblack, which is what you have. The touch up paint dries for a few days so I'm not surprised you got **** in there. Rubbing compound maybe to get that crap out and try touching up again. I don't know, my car was garaged so it didn't happen to me. I also did mine while the garage was nice and toasty so that cured pretty quick.

Well I touched it up, and 2 days later there was a dust storm..Im guessing the clear coat wasn't dry enough so all that crap stuck to it...guess I'll wash it again and see what happens...thanks for the help guys
