People dont realize how important good wipers are. . . . I have relatively new BOSCH, but I plan to get PIAA Super Silicone soon.

$tillenmax2k 02-26-2004 12:52 AM

aren't u suppose to change them yearly anyways?

good link.

desperado_45 02-26-2004 06:49 AM

change every 6k is what they say
I just ordered PIAA from LTB motorsports

MaxedOutOfCash 02-26-2004 07:06 AM

if you change them every 6k why not just get the cheap ones??? that's what i do and they work great... i change them about 3 times a year...

Pretty much depends more on driving conditions and weather. Mild climates with warm (but not HOT) summers and no snow/ice to worry about can get a much better life out of wipers. Snow and ice will chew them up quickly and really hot summers will cook the crap out of them and often cause them to deform (had enough of this happen).

PearlWhtMaX2000 02-26-2004 08:05 AM

the best thing to do is get the piaa's and then get the refills for $8 buks when u need to change them. i have the piaa, and they are amazing!!

dmontzsta 02-26-2004 08:50 AM

Once a year is plenty. Every 6k is a little insane, that is once every other oil change, keep in mind you only use them 1/4 of the year. If you want to make them last, wipe them blades with rubbing alcohol every so often.

Chron!cRAGE 02-26-2004 01:37 PM

I need to replace the blades on my 98. What sizes are needed for the driver and passenger side?

outsider 02-26-2004 01:44 PM

22 and 21 inches

1FSTMAX 02-26-2004 01:50 PM

I replaced mine after 6yrs. I used OEM from the dealer, the work very well.

ohannon7 02-27-2004 07:48 PM

No......................

Stealth Max 02-27-2004 10:42 PM

Pay a little more and get the silicone wipers from PIAA. Works good even in the MA winters. :)

imxelite 02-28-2004 10:08 AM

What size are the wipers for the 2003's left and right?

wariow 02-28-2004 11:02 AM

I'd use cheap pylons from walmart and change em yearly. I use rain-x deicer and i don't even need to use my wipers that often. I'm in a pretty snowy/cold climate and the deicer does its job. why pay 20-30 bucks on wipers when you can get a good enough one for 2 dollars?! Price != quality.

TZapper 02-28-2004 02:45 PM

Mine are dead and I just bough the Bosch Micro Edge Excel, they are supposed to be pretty good, better than OEM and better than teflon ones. Not sure how are they compared to PIAA Silicone or Sponza ones though.

The size on a 2000 Maxima is 26-1 for driver and 17-1 for passenger. Teflon has a 15-260 for driver and 15-170 for passenger.

It seems to me, I can never find 26" ones anywhere except at Advanced Auto Parts. They are the only places I know that I can find 26" blades and refils, which are what I've gotten for the past 4 times since the car was new 3 1/2 years ago. I always break the "refills" every winter while scraping ice and snow off the car. It also seems many places has choices of either 24 or 28, so too big or too small. Even the blades this thread doesn't have it in 26... Maybe I'll see if 28" will fit and not scrape the edges of my windshield. So for 2000 - 2003 I know they are 26" and 17".

My parts store here, Kragen, did not have 26" in stock either, so i had to special order from them, they said it would arrive in 4 days.

MaximaPolak 02-29-2004 09:24 AM

I still, After almost 2 years, have the stock wiper blades.

I keep 'em clean so they still wipe very well.

You change them as needed. I still have my originals on my Max. I clean them every time I wash the car or clean the windshield.

sk24iam 02-29-2004 04:08 PM

I really need new ones. They work ok when it's raining but when i need to clean the windshield with them they smudge it up.

What do you use in your windshield washer reservoir? They won't clean well if you have bugs and things caked on the glass.

young1976 02-29-2004 05:37 PM

I think Prestone or RainX makes "bug wash" or something like that. It works pretty well as long as you wipe the bug guts off before they dry and cake on. It works better than regular windshield washer. As for my blades, I just wish I stop breaking them... cluts... just bent my blades, the wiping part with the metal inserts, again today washing my car. Sucks, and it's always the 26" blade!

I would recommend using something made for cleaning bugs and road film. Rain-X, Sea Foam Bug Off, etc. You would use a lot of it if you tried to clean a windshield with dried on bugs. If you clean it as soon as a bug hits, it will clean fairly well. Go on done to Wally World and get yourself some Rain-X w/s washer fluid.

young1976 03-01-2004 04:48 AM

exactly what I said, get some bug wash and use it when the bug hit. Be ready to use your whole tank when you drive at night in the summer through bug infested areas, you'll hear them and it's kind of like, shrugs....bug killer!
