I've seen a few 6th gen Maximas with 5th gen rims.

Either they make 6th gen Maximas with 00/01 17'' SE rims. Or these people put them there themselves. Has anybody else seen 04 Maximas with 00/01 SE rims?

04 owners have been having their 18 inch factory rims stolen especially in your area, maybe they downgrade after that to the 17's.

Ahhh...damn, I know what it's like to have rims stolen. One month after I got my Max, I was on my way to school when I noticed the car was slighlty lop-sided. I came around the car and noticed one of the tires was gone and sitting on a stack of newspapers. That was exactly 3 years ago.
