Today I had the pleasure of meeting Don in Texas, The New Climax and Russ2KSE. We were at Don's house working on a Max. These are all great guys!

Now for the good stuff. Fof some time there has been speculation and questions as to which automatic transmission valve body modification is the best. Don's VB mod, or the Trans-GO shift kit.
refer to this thread on the somewhat 'heated' debate:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hlight=TransGo

No one knew until today. We all had our opinions.

I took Don for a ride in my Max that has the Trans-GO kit, then he took me for a ride in his car with his VB mod. Don's VB mod is DEFINITELY the better performer. No psychology here, this mod WITHOUT A DOUBT shifts harder and faster than the Trans-Go kit. Where/How? Don's 1-2 shift is faster and probably somewhat harder than Trans-GO, 2-3 shift is remarkably FASTER and HARDER as well as 3-4 over Trans-Go.The car nudged forward when shifting as opposed to a delay. Trans-go seemed to only shift harder than stock in 1-2, but faster in 2-3 and 3-4 over stock. I have timeslips to verify that it increases performance although it is not marketed as a performance kit. However I feel that there is much more time to be dropped by going with Don's mod. I am now going to save up for one for my car. Other surprise is that Don's car shifted quite comfortably at cruising speeds.

Moral of the story:
I wanted a faster car. I am a Do-it-Yourselfer to no end. I Didn't want to pay $400.00 vs. $50.00. I went with Trans-Go to see what it was about, installed it myself, and am very proud of that. It did drop my e.t. and saved me money. Now I will save up for Don's VB mod so it really will end up costing me more to get my trans where I want it in the long run. Well, I guess it was justified because now I (and you guys) KNOW the difference. Bottom line: Save up for Don's, costs more, performs way better and alot less labor for you! He said he will have a website up in the future and his VB mod will be available.

I'm really glad we compared modifications. The Trans-Go "kit" definitely pulls back during shifts (instead of leap forward), and shifts are a little firmer than stock, but not what you'd expect from a custom Performance modification.

We're still installing a Supercharger today, we will be heading out to meet with a few other guys later tonight, so we won't finish until tomorrow. It was nice meeting with you today.

I got a ?'s

This is directed to Don. You have seen/read the instructions for the Trans-go kit, with all the drilling that was done to enlarge holes thru out the VB and seperator plate will these drilling process render the VB useless incase someone wants to upgrade to your VB mod?

I'd really have to look at the "kit", but our modification is COMPLETELY reversable if you wanted to go back to the OEM shift....

If you are drilling into any ALUMINUM plates (3 on the VB), I doubt it would be compatible. I'll look at the "kit" in a few days and post our findings.

You know, we really should have taken more pics of the S/C install, and a few more Mpegs. Adam, did you take pics as well? All the pics I took are really jsut of parts, etc. We don't have any pics of the whole car with the S/C completely installed.

Don
