New personal Best...14.19@100.16mph

Copied from 1/4 mile forum

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=348201

Went to the track tonight. I ran in full street trim with no weight reduction other than spare tire/ jack. The only mods that I have done since my last 1/4 mile track visit here were :

Cattman Headers
Cleaned air filter
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator (adjusted 2-4psi over stock)

I ran a :

60...2.172
1/8...9.202
mph...77.16
1/4...14.197
mph...100.16

other passes were 14.217@100.60mph, 14.381@100.27, 14.396@100.22mph.

Weather was not ideal, low 60s but with 100% humidity. My windows stayed fogged up the whole time. My clutch also slipped on the 1-2 ans 2-3 shift every time. I think I also fried my clutch on the last run trying to launch too high but the new clutch is on the way anyway. I don't want to jinx myself but 13's will definately come in ideal conditions. I am excited to finally trap over 100mph though.

Who has the fastest trap speed for a N/A 4th gen on street tires? Neal?

Loe max 10-23-2004 06:42 AM

Awesome times! You were putting down some insance #'s with the auto, now your trapping at insane mph's with the manual. Humidity here was terrible also. I think Neal ran high 13's (?) with street tires.

Jason R 10-23-2004 10:46 AM

what kind of fuel pressure regulator are you running? nice times and very nice trap speeds!

Dave B 10-23-2004 10:47 AM

Nice runs. Trap speed wise in NA 3.0 4th gen, I think Neal has done 101mph, KrisMax 100mph, and I30Mike and myself 99.5mph+.

MAXINXS 10-23-2004 10:54 AM

Very nice times.

It is a universal OBX FPR. It was cheap, nothing fancy was needed. Instead of getting a SAFC and having to go back to the dyno to tune it, I figured it was easier to bump up the fuel a little because I could test that at the track. The JWT ecu makes it pretty lean on top end, and I am pretty sure with all my mods that I was lean all over the curve. I will probably dyno in the near future anway, to maximize the AFR after some other mods. :wall:

Jason R 10-23-2004 06:18 PM

where'd you get it from? i might buy one myself. last time i dyno'd the TS ECU had me running pretty lean.

I got it on ebay for less than $100. I bought that one because it had the fuel rail adapter for nissan and all fittings for connection, and it also had a gauge for easy adjustment of fuel pressure.

Stupid question but you could post a pic of the FPR and how it's installed. Does it simply replace the OEM FPR?

krismax 10-23-2004 11:50 PM

Very good times get some better tires.

My best trap was 100.26

My goal for next season is to trap 107-110 mph NA

It does replace the oem fpr. I confused myself at first, I thought I understood it but I was wrong. I might be the only one that didn't know. A FPR on our cars doesn't determine how much fuel pressure goes into the fuel rail, it determines how much fuel is returned to the tank on the return line. The flow is like this:

tank > fuel pump > fuel filter > front fuel rail > rear fuel rail > FPR > tank return

You hook it up with the fuel line coming out of the fuel rail and into the input line of the FPR, and the the out line of the FPR goes to the tank return line. There is also a vacuum port hookup on the FPR.

I have a few bad pics of the FPR on the 2nd page of my cardomain page, but you get the general idea. Hope this helps anyone interested. Link in my sig.
:)

congrats, good times

Wisky97SE 10-24-2004 05:15 PM

Yeah those are great times. Threads like this sometimes make me wish that I spent all the money on making my car 5spd and fast instead of suspension setups, system, wheels, etc etc etc. . ..

Jason R 10-24-2004 05:16 PM

was it a company selling the FPR on ebay or what?

jkklim 10-24-2004 05:53 PM

congrats man.

Here is the link to my purchase, not sure if he has anymore on there right now.

ebay link

Watch out for the seller though, he has alot of negative feedback, and he sent me the wrong item, the auction clearly stated that this was for a blue fpr, and you can see by my pics what color I got.

Jason R 10-24-2004 06:15 PM

oh. the red looks better anyways.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...e=STRK:MEWA:IT
think this one would work? i mean FPRs are pretty much universal right?

I think its the same regulator, but the fuel rail fitting is different depending on the kit for which car. That regulator would work, but if you want the adapter too, not sure if it will fit. The oem fpr is actually mounted on the fuel rail, one guy drilled out his stock regulator and used it just as the adapter, thats what I was gonna do if the adapter didn't fit well. I added an o-ring to mine to make sure it didn't leak at all.

nismo2020 10-24-2004 10:44 PM

sleeper, what kind of clutch do you have?

Its an exedy stock replacement clutch currently. I ordered a spec stage 2 that will be here next week.

Jason R 10-25-2004 12:10 PM

you went with a spec? i had a stage 1 and it was horrible. would grab hard if i dumped the clutch but never would it grab when i shifted.

Stupid question #2

I recently replaced my 2001 GrandPrix GTP with a brand new 2004 Maxima SE 5spd auto. I have never been to the track with it yet. The closest track where I live is only 1/8 mile long.

My best time with the completely stock GTP on that track was 9.08. Can I expect to do better with a stock 2004 Max?

Thanks,

Stephen.

9.08 1/8 mile is about 13.9-14.1....you say you ran that stock?

I don't know what the time would have been on a 1/4 mile track, but yes those times were completely stock. I will scan the time slip and post them tomorrow.

Since I own the Max, I have noticed that it seems a bit shy in the low end torque, but pulls when high revs are reached.

Maybe the 1/8 mile track is not the preferred playground for our rides

Damn Canadian air. Pump some of that stuff down here to Kansas City.

stephenr 10-27-2004 12:39 PM

Just in case you don't know the GTP is factory SuperCharged and GM claims 240HP@5200 & 280 LB/Ft Torque @ 3600

Thanks, I know what a type of power train the GTP has. I have seen countless GTP's at the track and your stock times are just out of line from what I have seen them run...unless you were pulling like 1.8 60' or something.

Maybe I am just to used to looking at maxima time slips, and a 9.0 1/8 is more like a 14.6 or so for a GTP....but I dont' think that is the case

//M5'ver 10-28-2004 08:01 AM

who cares you are all slow

Glude 10-28-2004 02:02 PM

GTPs have a lot more low end then the 04 maxima, I raced one when I was stock and it beat me off the line and in the 1/4. Im not sure if he was modded but I ran a 14.3 and he pulled a 14.1. his traps were high and his 60ft was better but it was a close race.

NmexMAX 10-28-2004 02:12 PM

He was most likely modded.

They do 14.8--15.1, that I've seen stock.

I30tMikeD 10-28-2004 05:20 PM

here is the slip of a Regal GS (same cars as a GTP) that I ran against several times last year at the track. IIRC, he had 2 or 3 sizes smaller pulley, headers and full exhaust. It was also in the low 50's that day....and yes it was at Byron Dragway.

2.15 60'
8.93 1/8 @ 79mph
13.8 1/4 @ 98.97

So uh, how did 96sleeper's thread turn into an L67 thread?
