I am just wondering who all can chirp the tires in second possibly third. I can usually chirp em in second, but have only chirped in third twice the whole year and a half I've owned the car. Does it mainly have to do with how good of a clutch you have? Any automatics get a chirp at the gear change?

Do you guys think that a lot of it has to do with a good strong clutch. Mine always seems to slip a bit when I shift fast. Btw it is a Nissan clutch. Is that my problem? It seems that it just can't take the extra hp....

From my experience, it is far easier to spin the tires in 2nd and 3rd with larger wheels and tires. My 235/45R17s would spin dramatically in 2nd and chirp 3rd quite easily. Now with my lightweight 16s and 215/55s, all I get is a nice chirp in 2nd and once in a blue moon a chirp in 3rd.

Mine chirps from 1st to 2nd every now and then...but i am also auto. Fear my auto! With NOS... i dont really want to find out. BTW i have Don's VB mod.

I think the amount of mods and how you would dump the clutch will matter. The size of your tires/rims will matter as well.

Dave
wouldn't it be hard to spin the wheels, if they are bigger, due to more weight.

Not from my experience. My 17s weighed about 12lbs more overall than my 16s. I think much of the reason why it's easier to spin the tires with wide low profile tires is because of the contact patch. First, a car's contact patch will be the same size regardless of the tire, the shape will be different though. The shape is what determines the traction in the straightline and cornering. Wide low profile tires have a wide and narrow contact patch which is good for cornering, but bad for straightline. Taller and narrower tires have a long and narrow contact patch and they aren't as good for cornering, but they have more bite off the line.

hruh?

i've never spinned my tires from 2nd-3rd gear. can you do this easily and repetitavely(sp?)? if you do, are you powershifiting, redlining 2nd, or just shifting really fast, or a little of everything? thanks

I've never chirped into 3rd, even at the track... as far as I understand, with good driving the chrips should be minimal...

Nah, before the vb my trans could never chirp from 1st into 2nd. Only after the vb mod.
