is $220 resonable for inner tie rods including alignment?
I provide parts, front end shop installs them , I think i could do this myself , but some suspension guru's recommend to let the pro's handle it and align the car at the same time.
or should i just do it myself , save $190 and have it aligned for $35?
any thoughts?
Nick.

Do it yourself if you have the confidence. That seems steep for such a small amount of work. If you measure the length before you remove the old ones and u=install the new ones to the same measurement, the alignment will be a snap.

are they doing both sides? if they are only doing one side $190 is waaay too steep if u ask me....if they use a lift and all the right tools....one side only takes about 30 minutes to do....i'd say both sides would be 1hr labor....most shops charge around $75/hr for labor give or take a few bucks....well you get the idea....basically hes charging u more than twice of what it really suppose to be....

The quote was for 2 inner tie rods replaced , I provide parts , they charge $35 for front alignment so it looks like he is charging about $92 per hour in labor.
I will attempt to do them myself , but I have not found any detailed instructions
both manuals (Hayens and Chiltons ) only show how to replace to outer tie rods, not the inner ones
I do not want to pull the steering rack just to change inner rods

Now , when do you change the inner rods , do you measure the lenght of the old ones(ie; how far they stick out from rack) , or just eye ball it, screw the new ones in, and than have the car aligned?
yes - the job looks pretty straight forward , and I'm planning on doing it myself,
just want to know other people experience , so i wont make dumb mistakes

I will change them myself , just looking for tips, it seems like about 5 people on org have changed the inner tie rods themself and there isn't much info avialable
as longest i will be able to loosen up the boot and the inner nut that secures the tie rod to steering gear unit , i should be ok
The tie rod tool from autozone will be handy too.
$200 for two inner tie rods is way overpriced , even though this shop has great service and prices ( their alignment tech been aligning cars for years )
and he was the first tech ever who showed me my loose balljoint and inner rods
and for XXXX number of alignments I 've had in the past -
All they did was " set his toe and let it go "
