People with aftermarket HID's please come in!

Im ready to purchase some HID's but i dunno what brand and what K to get. I found a ton on ebay but i dont really trust ebay that much. The ones I found were Philips Hella x5. I also looked at the Helios ones on the .org that maximabest is running GD for them but i havent received a response back. Letme know what to get brand wise, which ones offer the best waranty and some pics would be helpfull! Thanks guys!

I recommend philips or hella. Not sure about the helios. Just dont get a cheap asian made one. Itll last u about a year at best. As for the Kelvin, the higher K: the less light output but more color. Functionality wise, 4100k-4500k would be your best bet. If you just want HIDs for color, 6000k-8000k.
Ever think about retrofitting?

97WhtSE Sep 25, 2005 12:55 PM

I did think about it but i think theres just too much work involved in that. even though it looks great but dont have much time on my hands cause of school and full time job.
Will the 8000k be better in visibility then the Silvania Silverstars? Sorry if its a dumb question.

DpG $h0rTeE Sep 25, 2005 02:56 PM

It may look brighter from the outside, but the output on the ground will be very bad due to all that color. White street signs will look very blue. Not to mention you will be blinding everyone with super blue lights. It will be hard to see on paved black streets and visibility will suffer greatly in the rain and fog. If you want a tradeoff with color and functionality, philips makes a 6000k "Ultinon" bulb.

hanabi 7000k = win

havent used them before but this is defiently on my list intill i came scronge up the moeny for projector parts.

bijan, how do you like the haniabas?

maximase86 Sep 25, 2005 06:26 PM

I did HID's on my Volvo. I did Phillips D2R bulbs that were machine rebased for 9006. They are 4300k. I run these with Denso Ballasts Personally I want more like light output because I suffer from night blindness because of my near-sightedness. But if you want color, I'd say go for 5-7k bulbs.

Umnitza is running a GD still for $260, lifetime warranty. I'd recommend nothing over 6K if light output is more important to you.

umnitza Oct 1, 2005 10:31 AM

Thanks:) We're also running a special on he angel eyes:)

queenambeach Oct 3, 2005 08:19 AM

I have a JSM 6000K kit.
Like it was said above the more color you get the harder it is to see on paved black roads. I'd advise 4-6K!

umnitza Oct 3, 2005 09:23 AM

We can sell you guys JSM kits for $215 shipped:)
Interested?

Maximus_95 Oct 3, 2005 09:29 AM

This picture is my car with 8000k McCulloch

Never had a problem with them and i had them for about a year and a half.
But i would try getting 6000k - 7000k but happy with mine.

Actually ProLumen reliability has rivaled if not surpassed earlier OEM kit reliability - 2002-2004 roughly vintage of OEM kits.

Call your local dealer if you don't believe us and ask them how many HID kits they are replacing for their clients - call the BMW dealer:D

But what you said is on the money in general. The newer OEM kits - while not having enough time in the field yet - are supposed to be a league ahead.

Will the Prolumen H3 kit have the mini-H3 bulb like the Helios kit? Since they are made in the same factory, or does it have a bulb that requires some modification to fit in a 5th gen fog light housing? Thanks

umnitza Oct 4, 2005 08:15 AM

Either or:) We provide either the mini bulb or the regular bulb.

There are actually 3 types of capsules:
1) Regular D2S
2) Shortened D2S (for H3)
3) Mini.

We provide the last 2 for H3 applications.

6000K is the best way to go...They have some colour in them, but they are bright as hell, even in the rain i can still see the light on the road...i couldnt do that with the halogens...

ravrunner Nov 2, 2005 10:28 AM

8000k Hanabi
I've had them now for 3 years with no problems at all!

BigLou93SE Nov 2, 2005 01:36 PM

In order to get these HID's, what else needs to be modded? Can these just be swapped in, or is there an upgrade to the harness that needs to take place?

umnitza Nov 2, 2005 01:44 PM

they just swap in, please email us if you have other questions - info@Umnitza.com

ColdSHO Nov 2, 2005 03:20 PM

just swapping form halgen bulbs to hid without having the proper housing is illegal, altho im sure none of us care, most of our mods are, ure gonna get lots of glare tho.

kingrukus Nov 2, 2005 08:49 PM

I currently own a Hanabi 6000k kit and it looks ok. However now I have seen the light and am going to do a retrofit with some bosch projectors, hella gen 3 ballasts and Philips D2S 4300k bulbs.

If you are not going to go with a retrofit, try to look for a kit that uses either Osram or Philips parts with 4300k rated bulbs...I do know that they exist.

happyricefob Nov 3, 2005 07:44 PM

i have 9004 ProLumen 6k Kit from Umnitza... he lives like 5 minutes next to me so i wen to his warehouse and picked up a set earlier this year. installation was simple, PnP. everything looks awesome!

although i'm running Luminics on my gf's tc, it will blow out eventually. i will get another set of 9006 Prolumen 6k Kit from Umnitza :)

happyricefob Nov 3, 2005 07:45 PM

btw in my sig there's my 6k HID kit vs. my friends' stock g35 and stock s2000....

maxgtr2000 Nov 4, 2005 05:46 AM

Are s2k's bi-xenon?

maxgtr2000 Nov 4, 2005 08:52 AM

Their only downfall. I'm not sure what the best bixenons would be, it maybe TLs.

no single xenon.. and they use a 4100-4300k bulb..all the color you see is from the projector cutoff..

MAXjersey01 Nov 4, 2005 10:58 AM
