What's the widest I can go? I stepped from a 205/65HR15to a 215/60VR15 April last year, they lasted 44k miles...I have to get a new set within a few weeks (almost no tread left on all 4, and 5 flat tires in a month from picking up road debris...pretty good indication they need replacing I think; damn construction around Alexandria/Springfield doesn't help either).
Will a 225/55 (H/V)R15 fit on them or will they not fit or look silly w/ excess bulge??

they will fit....

I couldnt find any 225/55-15 tires besides some hoosier racing tires. 215/60 may be your best option

in your example the 215 is the width of the tread in MM
the 60 is the ASPECT ratio, which is the percentage of the tread that makes up the sidewall, and the 15 is the rim size.

example: "215/60HR15"
215 is the width of the tire...
60 is the ratio of the sidewall height to the width (60% as high as it is wide in this case)
"H" is the speed rating
"R" means Radial I think.
15 is the wheel size (15")

I have 225/60 on the stock wheels. 225/60 will have a better selection and be closer to stock size.

That's good to know, I thought you had to step both the size and the ratio to keep the same diameter. So I would not need to get a 55 aspect ratio on a 225 to keep the speedometer/odometer accurate? A 225/60 will be the same as the stock 205/65 or my 215-60? I Just want to double check...
How do they look/handle? They don't bulge too much do they?

HoJo Jun 7, 2001 08:28 PM

If the tire is a V or Z rated tire it won't bulge as much as a lesser quality tire will, they look fine on the wheel.

Cool. Thanks a lot. I was looking at the tirerack.com just to research a bit, and you're right about there being more selection for the 225/60 size...and the diameter is within 1/10th's of the OE tire.
