In just over a year's time...

In a little over a year, the TLC here in Mexico - part of the NAFTA agreement - will come into full effect. At that time we will be able to freely import any car we like from the US. Hehehe... sorry guys but I think you're gonna be facing a little competition from over here, pretty soon! Until now any vehicle imported by a private citizen had to be >=10 years old. 5-speeds are unobtainable here. I always wanted a manual... I really don't like my auto tranny. It seems to like light footed drivers. The one on my 89 Aerostar van works better.

Unobtainable as in nothing there comes factory with a straight shift, or can you not import them yourself?

Exactly!
Plenty of manual Sentras but no Maximas except autos.
Until the TLC comes fully into operation we have been limited to importing vehicles that are at least 10 years old, to protect the local manufacturers (mainly VW)
But in a year's time I will definitely be looking to sell my Gen IV Max over here and go and find a stick shift. Very preferably a VQ35.

Don't you have those?
I'm seeing a LOT of Mitsubishis on the road now.
All these firms started here in Monterrey within the last year or so:
SEAT, FIAT, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Toyota, Renault, probably I have forgotten some more. We already had all the US domestics and of course VW is very big here.
Monterrey has huge amounts of money swishing around and so the streets are full of upmarket, very quick motors. I have to be really careful who I take on. At least, the friggin' H2 Hummer I see every morning has now resorted to taking off from the line while the lights are still red, after I shut him down a couple of times.
