Myth? Dangers of a STS?
I've heard from a couple of people, including an older thread, where someone was claiming that STS's are actually bad for our transmissions/transmissions in general. Is there any truth in this?

as far as I can tell, MYTH. how can the tranny tell a difference between how tall your shift lever is? the only thing that could result would be poor shifting on the driver's part due to a new shift feel; ie: may miss gears, may not hook up completely in gear, etc. unlikely that any damage would result to the tranny because of a STS.

I couldn't think of a reason as well, but I started getting worried themore I thought about it, so I decided I would suck it up and ask.

The STS itself will not cause additional wear, but the STS could tempt you to shift it faster and force it into gear which will wear on the synchros. If you rev match on up and down shifts, your synchros will last forever whether you have a STS or not.

My STS actually causes me to shift slower because it doesn't have the same smooth feel that the stock shifter had. I don't like the feel of it.

This is the thread that got me scared for those who want to read it, it's pretty recent. |
you'd actually be putting less "pressure" on the tranny since you don't have as much levarage with a STS. It's easier to force something into gear with a long-@ss shifter than with a short one.

The cheap ones just break, they dont affect ur trans.
I def shift faster with my STS. It is notchy as f going into 3 especially. However once you get used to the force you have to put into it your good to go. |
