I just finished installing my new pair of real HID's in my 95 max {in my 97-99 headlights}.These lights just go into the factory housing.It took like 2 hours to do since it was my first time so I wanted to make sure I did everything right.My impressions of these lights is very positive,whould I do it again hell ya.These lights are amed perfectly on the street and are about 3 times brighter then my piaa superwhites were,it looks like daytime now!!.The only compliant I have now is that my other 2 pairs of piaa superwhites look piss yellow next to them. If anyone is interested in buying these I will post were you can get these lights at the same great price of $525 in the for sale section tomarrow with ordering details.If any one has any questions then post away.

These lights are from a Lincoln Mark VIII {I think 9006} so basically they were not designed for 9004's either.They adapted to the my headlights very easily though no drilling or yousing a dremol.I just used some Epoxy and some Silicone sealant Caulk.They are on real flush and solid now.
I thought 5th gen's were still 9004 headlights and H4 foglight instead of H3's on 4th gens.I guess not,but I don't think you would have a problem installing them anywase.Might take a little crafsminship though.

they were junk. I sold mine on Ebay for 275. I am happy to hear you got a good set. My GF has them in her Integra and they worked perfect in hers. I think I got a bad set or something....but you got them a lot higher priced than I did.

Stay away from those conversions! They'll just f**k up your beam pattern. H4s are the best non-HID bulbs out there. Be happy you don't have these freakin' Godforsaken 9004s.

Someone help me here.

1) The Mark VIII has hid? Yes right?
2) You just epoxied the buld into the maxima housings?
3) Can you just do that w/o messing up the beam patterns? Nissan reflectors w/ HID lights from a Ford?
4) How did you do the wiring?
5) Do you high beams also??

No, H4s are not 9006s. Completely different bulb length and connectors.

Hay Wooodear the answer to your question is yes it does look the same as mercedes and others with HID's.


And Jeff92SE,no I do not have any high beams{I never yous them anywase},The beam patterns seem fine to me,and about wiring,just 4 wires have to be altered a little,it's easy to wire just get wire cutters,stripers,soudering iron and some wire scrues and your good to go.

Sounds like a good deal for $525. I guess I won't be selling too many Philips HID kits ($590) for Maxima owners since most will opt for the less expensive kit LOL (I received five kits this morning. Three are being sent out tomorrow, one was just sent out this afternoon, one left in stock)

i think the ones in his pic is for 9006 only, that's exactly what i have on mine.
and to tell you the truth, unless your 9006 is projector head light, it won't look 100% like the oem xenon.

Actually, Office Depot has the Kodak DC215 for $299. I just purchased a DC280 online for $400 total the other day, and man when I heard $299, I almost had a heart attack.

BTW, if you are trying to decide between the 215 or the 280, spend the extra $100 for the 280. I just got it, and the picture quality is 'spectacular' (if you know what I mean, from Seinfield).

like woodear mentioned, those pictured are all 9006 - projector. I don't stock up on the reflective bulbs since they're not as quick of a seller. If you opt for the 9004R, you lose your high beam. Personally, I never use my high beams. Once you have HIDs you won't need them since you'll be lighting up the road =)

woodear, the Philips unit is used in most German vehicles - Benz, Porsche, BMW, Audi, etc according to my supplier.

i heard they have two types, the other one is Hella or something?
i personally much prefer the projecter type of xenon, like the one on OEM Audi or S2000, from far away it's 2 tiny cold looking blue dots, once they get close they keep changing color, when it's at your eye level it turns to yellow like normal halogen lights so it don't both you. i think it looks way better than the non-projection xenon like the OEM Mecedes and Lexus.
I think BMW just changed their headlights to projecter also on the '01 model.

9006 are combined with 9005 for teh low/high combination in most cars using the two headlight system (US BMWs, Hondas, Buicks)

There are housing numbers (usually imprinted on the housing lens of the headlamp) that are associated with the bulb types:

9004 - HB1
9005 - HB3
9006 - HB4
9007 - HB5

9003=H4 - HB2

These 9000 series and HB numbers signify a lamp that is built in compliance to the FMVSS108 specification. The H series of numbers (H1 through H7) are built to European specs. If you've got a dual filament bulb...stay away from HID conversions...you'll lose your highbeams and would only be annoying to other drivers on the road.

the way the HID light looks also depends on the beam pattern on the light housing.

If you look at the 3, 5, 7 series cars, you'll see that BMW does use a projection style lense, but it's setup differently than other housings. This isn't a great shot, but you can sorta see what I'm saying:

the high beam housing has a projector lense set in to make it seem like it's a reflective housing, which it's not, though.

HID high beam is possible, the new 911TT and MB CL600 use Bi-xenon, you get both hi and lo.
I don't think you can have 9004 HID conversion and not lose high beam.

HID laighting requires a high startup voltage, somewhere in the order of 20000 volts. THe steady state voltage falls to about 7000 to 9000 volts after the gas inside the tube reaches it's operating temperature. The reason why high beam HID lighting wouldn't work is that the response (the time it takes for the gas to heat up compared to when you flick the switch) is too slow with HID lighting.

Next time you get a chance, turn on a car's HID lighting after it's bee sitting for a few hours. Notice how the headlights actually flicker on and the intensity of the light starts quite purple and no at as bright.

The way the newer cars have accomplished HID high beams is though electro-mechanical controls. There is actually one bulb. But the housing sits on a lever that is activated by small motors. When the driver flicks the high beam switch, the motor actually re-aims the housings upwards. Philips, Hella and Sylvania (all OEM headlight suppliers) are currently working on making these for more models. Cars in Europe have used these systems for a few years, except that they motors only serve to lower the low beam pattern when the computer senses heavy loads in the rear of the car. This is to prevent the glare you get when you sit below the beam cutoff.
