Found a quick fix for slow power windows
 

The power windows on my 2000 I30 have been very slow for years, especially when coming up.

I have tried Lithum grease, WD-40, Silicone Spray, where the glass meets the rubber around the windows, with little success.

Recently picked up Turtle Wax ICE Total Interior Care at Target. Says on bottle it cleans, conditions, & protects plastic vinyl & leather.

Cleaned the interior dash well without the greasy shine of other products.

But the real surprise was that after I wiped it on the rubber around the doors the windows now move up and down 100 times faster. And it seems to last!

Small things make me happy!

Point is this stuff worked when everything else didn't. And yes, seems 100 times faster. It's that much better!

Had already done that year ago with some improvment, but not 100 times better like now :laugh:

my car suffered from slow windows in the rear, they went down fine but up was just slow, I added the Grounding Kit from Active Tuning and the windows seem completely different, they work like my fathers Lexus, smooth and fast, I wonder if they where ever properly grounded, the 50 bucks for the kit was more then worth it

No problems with my windows, I can sit in the driveway and run them up and down; just can't seem to find anybody to fix my engine control problems...

I've had success with putting the window down and spraying pure silicone (using the straw) into the rubber weather stripping the window rides in. In the cases where that only helped a little, removing the door panel and greasing the tracks and other moving parts was the cure.

i replaced the motor on drivers side, some days its actually slower going up than the passenger side??? so's im thinkin the grounding kit sounds like a good idea. :cool:

Where exactly did you apply the wax? Be specific with "the rubber around the doors".

Apply to the track and rubber on the door that makes direct contact with the windows. Still working well, and yes still 100 times faster!

I tried this, and they starting going up so fast I had to apply PolyGrip to the tracks...

Try the stuff and see for yourself!

Guess what....I still stand by my "discovery". Once or twice a year I apply Turtle Wax ICE Total Interior Care to the rubber tracks of my driver side window and it keeps the window moving well, even this year with all the cold weather!

I am definitely going to try this today! I recently failed inspection and my drivers window was one of things it failed for!! It is verrryyy slow going up when it is cold out like it's been. I hope this fixes this problem!! I will let you know!

PS - Won't Armor All do the same thing though?

Still working well after almost two years. I apply the stuff only about 3X a year and the windows continue to move up and down quickly.

I'm just about done with the bottle I bought in 2008.

Did I read correctly that you failed inspection because of a slow window? Never heard of that.

that silicone spray did not work for my windows.. i think its the motor but they do got down the just dont go al the way down so i have to push the button over n over again n wen it finally comes down i hear a sound from inside the door.. soo i give up im just gonna take it to a body shop :/

You should make a video on the windows. That way we can see how fast it is :D

Hmm, weird discovery when it sounds like the motor is usually what would cause it to slow down.

my 95 windows are fast like all the new cars I've been in however the 3rd gens are def a bit slower so I'll try it on that one. My pathfinders take 5 minutes to go all the way up lol

It actually failed for a few things like rear brakes(needed calipers and rotors), 2 codes for emissions, etc.. When the inspection guy tested the driver window, it barely moved(didn't go up at all) It was very cold the morning I brought it there... So, it failed for "inoperable driver window" which is a safety hazard in NJ. I told the guy it goes down, just flaky going up and he good give a crap. I will hopefully go thru inspection by next week so I'll let you know how it goes.

Best thing to do is just crack the door open and lube up all the moving parts.

Did that on my old Saturn, windows all work like new. The windows on my Max are all fast so no need to touch 'em.

100 times faster!! lol it does work.. just did it.. but used armorall original.. turtle wax ice shine is 9.99 and armorall is 5.99 sorry but its a bit too much for turtle wax..

Never, I say never use WD 40 on your car except to remove some spot rust and then wash thoroughly and wax after.....this stuff is like super corrosive. It will eat away at different parts....don't go there...I use white grease on my tracks and clean the rubber with special rubber cleaner...and the windows go up and down fast now. Spring cleaning is a lot of work!

Hey just an update:

They now make the Turtle Wax ICE Total Interior Care in a spray bottle. Doesn't make such a mess as the squeeze bottle!

Still makes the windows go up and down 100x faster!

I'm going to have to try this on my car. For the past 2 years the windows have progressively getting slower. Did the big 3 and no change to the windows.

i heard that the non stick pam spray works well too...

will try this. thanks for the info, my back windows are slow as hell.

Just ran to Auto Zone, bought the gel version, now my driver window works like new.
