i agree, i was lookin for the altima. but like they said, maybe its better that neither are listed.

thats a pretty crappy list, im 17, i drive a maxima and i honestly would not want to drive any of those cars... well... id take the RSX, TSX, and maybe the mazda, but im a big acura fan and everyone likes mazdas. lol but i would not want a prius, milage sure, reliablity sure?, maybe for women... but as a teen in highschool, a prius will get you made fun of.

My first car was a V6 Accord Coupe, the last gen one that made 240 hp (not the current bloated, ugly one). It was a great car and pretty much a perfect first car, but eventually I got sick of the front wheel drive so upgraded to a G35 Coupe when I was 20.

Not everyone likes Mazdas and watch your mouth. You might get the ban flag.

LOL. I bought my Max at the age of 19 and there are no worries, I absolutely baby this car, it is my baby.

My first car was a 90hp b12 sentra 5sp sport coupe which was about ready to roll over and die that I picked up for free.

I would say that was a bad first car considering at the time I taught myself to no-lift shift in it. St...'borrowed' construction cones and made an awesome autocross course in an abandoned parking lot, got like 100feet of air (distance wise, not total height) off a jump in the field behind the parking lot, and did a lot of driving on things I wasn't supposed to be driving on.

Oh, and ricing it out with cardboard.

Even though that car encouraged me to make some irresponsible choices as a teen, I think it was great though. I was always fixing parts and whatnot that broke from rallying it (plus had to fix a lot initially to get it running when I got it). I think that car really helped me out as far as fixing cars and being mechanically inclined.

Haha just as a joke for the pics. I did make some hilarious video though. I only left a small piece of duct tape on it and started driving with my buddy in his Pearl White 97 Max SE behind me and I was like "oh wow you can really feel the downforce" and then when I got to like 25mph it flew off and got smashed by my buddies car in the movie and I was like "oh no! im gonna crash without my downforce, my 1 dollar pepboys cardboard type-R wing is ruined!" lol

But yea, I did so much **** in that car. I remember taking it to my buddies land and running it up grassy hills at like 45 mph to see how much air I could get lol.

Got my Max when I was 17 and I believe that it's a perfect first car. I abused it, I did CRAZYYYYY stuff on it and I eventually learned to take care of it. This is the car that teaches you how to take care of a car. It lets you make mistakes, which is a good thing.

I love it best cars for teens on an all new car list. No offense, but I'm one of those "teens shouldn't have new cars" people. I beat the living snot out of my 1st car.

No matter how "good" of a driver a teen is, the majority of them take a vehicle as meaning freedom and do a good deal of dumb things in them. I wouldn't really want to put my kid in anything over 140hp. It's good enough to merge into oncoming traffic but not enough to make it overly fast.

There's nothing over a first gen I would buy for my kid, if I had one.

i don't really see the problem with a maxima as a first car for someone...it's nice, it's pretty safe, and it's not too much power to go out of control really...but then again, some teens are idiots and i wouldn't trust them with a tricycle

Steve Millen gave his daughter a modded Altima as her first car. Fits your description right there.

My first vehilce was a 1981 toyota trekker, it was before 4runners. I would totally give a stock SUV to my kids. ESP a 4unner. those things are gutless wonders, and can barely get out of there own way/compred to a stock or modded max.
I have had sevral other toytas. and they handle great for an SUV. And having the option of 4x4 in the snow can be a life saver for kid..

My first car wasn't on that list. 1996 Lexus LS 400. Not a single problem in the four years I owned it. I recently sold it - I want something a little more involving to drive with better fuel economy (ie Maxima SE).

The problem w/the Lexus not making the list is their price. They hold their value so well, they're just not 'affordable'.

This is true. However, I found a great deal on mine and acted on it. Back in 2004 I got my '96 LS 400 for just $6800. I sold it a month ago for $5250.

I guess premium fuel would be another drawback for a teen driver. I'm a fairly conservative driver and consistently averaged 22 mpg in mostly city driving with mine so it wasn't a big deal.

I'm thinking the Maxima is a near-luxury car and thus if its 'used' enough to be given to a teenager it would have too many maintenance issues for a magazine like Consumer Reports to recommend. Remember Consumer Reports caters to douches who drive cars 2-4 years and then trade "up." The douches that only drive a car that is financed and still under warranty, nevermind the fact that if they learned how to turn a wrench on an old car they could retire a millionaire on the money they saved by not making car payments their entire life.......wrong forum, sorry!

I got my 01 GLE when I turned 16, I'm 20 now and haven't had any accidents or problems. The traction control is great for new drivers and the overall mirror visibility makes the Maxima an easy car to drive. I've put 50K miles on mine and don't have one regret. The Maxima's power is nice to have when a slow 4 banger won't give you enough acceleration when you need it!

why? just curious.

imo they are safe and reliable and for new drivers(teens) a 4th gen is cheap enough to buy and reliable enough to last until/through college. as well as not being to boring/ugly..imo

My Max was my first car, and a reliable car at that. Iwont lie until i got my first ticket i did speed signifigantly. So does, every irrespoinsible teenager however... I would honestly reccomend a Maxima for a first time driver, BUT ONLY one with all the trimmings, for Ex. ABS, TC, ALL THE AIRBAGS POSSIBLE. ECT. safety first [Period]. but anyways, we all know that the reason its not on the list is becasue of its speed. and i loved the comment about the handleing HA. Ill probably give this Max to my girlfriend when she finally accepts that a Fucus is the wrong direction to be going, hehe...

The first car I drove upon getting my license was a 4,500 pound monster. That's the best thing for a kid to learn to drive in - cheap to fix, built like a tank, and almost as fast as one.

Teenage Drivers

I say a Volvo too like a 240/740/850 ( no turbos) if they are lucky.Looking at all your replies (younger members), it sure seems like what goes around comes around. When I was 16 a ten year old car like a 4th gen would be uncool. Thank goodness they made 4th Maximas strong and their still a good ride, cause I am still using mine, not everyday. I was lucky enough to drive a 1st gen Cougar,(classic generation). It was real fast but not as fast the Maxima. I still have it too. Just be safe out there, like I tell my college age kid, call me no questions ask if you need a ride home. He's been good about , no DUI's.

Well, the Maxima is considered the sporty 4-door.
I bought the car brand new when I was 17 mainly because I needed a daily driver. I wanted something that was comfortable, spacey, and had some power
I had an Evo at the time and I drove the Maxima wayyyy more than the Evo.
I'd definitely say for me when I was in high school the Maxima was perfect!
Roomy for my friends, good on gas, comfortable for road trips, reliable, and is something my family could also drive.

How did you accumulate $ for 2 cars? I'm very impressed if you did it yourself.

i'm 17 and my 4th gen is my first car that i paid for myself. my parents thought it would be too fast for me. i already have had my license suspended.
first time getting pulled over was a warning for doing 98 in a 55. first ticket was 75 in a 45 (reduced to a 55 in 45). second ticket was passing on the right AND not signaling. third ticket was 76 in a 45.
car for teen drivers?

Well, I bought the Evo and my dad bought the Maxima brand new. It was originally suppose to be a car that anyone could drive in the house whenever they needed to. My family likes to take road trips and such, so they bought the Maxima for mainly that. Then eventually I became the primary driver...drove it to school and just out and about. My parents didnt want to put a lot of miles on their cars if we went to far places.
I pretty much took over the car and it's been <333 ever since ha!

Maybe you should slow your a** down.

I've never gotten one ticket for speeding. - but then again I dont ever go 5 over the speed limit on normal roads. On the highway though.....thats where the Valentine comes in! ha!

im with you on this, normal roads around town things like this, always no more then 5 over.

highway, way different story.
its about speeding right. knowing that there are limits with radar detectors, and how to use them.

I am 24 and my first car was 04 G35X. Now, i'm driving 09 new maxima.
I think Nissan is more of guys brand and Toyota, Honda for ladies.
Maxima is too fast for teen driver? it's not about their age and experience,,,
there are lots of stupid drivers who are around 40-50. it depends on ur driving style and habits. whoever drives maxima will need to show polite driving attitude and safe
driving. this is how we pride Nissan Maxima.
