I'm now the proud owner of a SC'd fart machine.

While fixing the alternator, we traced a strange rattling noise to a weld in the ypipe. The weld had broken and was buzzing between two of the pipes. It popped out and now the car makes amplified fart noises during normal driving. Now I have to go get the hole welded closed. The fun never ends.

OK is there supposedly something that we can learn from this?

Synki Nov 13, 2001 05:36 PM

That sucks Jim.

Maybe we can learn something from this. :)

What kind of pipe did you have? How long? Did you use any exhaust wrap and maybe that caused the welb to crack? Just keeping a heads up. ;)

Stillen y-pipe. It has been on for about 2.5 years and about 40k miles. It had no exhaust wrap or anything else done to it. It should be easy enough for a muffler shop to weld closed but it's frustrating when you have one problem after another and no time to take care of them. If I had an extra car, it wouldn't be as big a deal but I've gotta drive the car to work and it's a little embarrasing.

then why mod? why go through the trouble getting a aftermarket Y-pipe? it's been on the car for 2.5 years. it's not supposed to last a lifetime. IMO 2.5 yrs on a aftermkt performance pipe made of mild steel (w/o major probs) has done it's job.
if you wanted a reliable car then keep it stock. look at how long the stock y-pipe lasts? 5-6 years at least. people who mod (to the extent you have) should not be frustrated when parts break down. god forbid something happens to your SC and it's down for weeks waiting for parts.
