RUST MUST GO! WHAT COLOR DO YOU THINK?
I've got to get rid of this rust... what color do you guys think I should paint over it and is there any particular paint or method I should use other than some steel wool and high heat spray paint?

you are going to need more than steel wool to clean it enough for the pain to stay. I would keep it low key, i personally would go with black.

you are going to need a steel brush or something similar you can hook to a drill and its going to take some time if you want the paint to stay. If it were me i would probably just pick up some of the cryo treated rotors that they have for sale at tirerack.com. you will have new rotors and they are already painted black...

I've only had those rotors on for about 6k miles.... I'm afraid if I don't paint them they will rust right back

#1 cryo rotors are a huge rip off.
#2 you're going to need a dremel/drill to get those clean. then paint them black. while you're there take off your brakes and paint them too. nice 4th gen. |

ya i was thinkin about painting the calipers too! do i need to pull the brake pads out of the caliper or should they be ok?
i think black is the winning color... thanks for the compliment. imo the easiest way is just to remove them all together. that's what i did. brake fluid should be changed every 3 years anyways and it's not hard to get them off. brake fluid is cheap also... i'll post some examples of the two jobs: done on the car(looks even worse in person) http://forums.maxima.org/members/tor...-not-often.jpg off the car: http://forums.maxima.org/members/tor...res-though.jpg it might not be clear but the ones done off the car look 100x better. it's easier to do more coats and let them dry properly as well. |
ya I can definitely see the difference... Thanks for all the advice!

brembo blanks, wire brush + 18V drill, high heat spray paint, high heat clear coat.
I did mine off the car once, and on the car the 2nd time and it made no difference, I just wipe them with a damp cloth every time I wash the car and they stay black and nice looking; no rust problems. http://forums.maxima.org/members/pea...er-10-2008.jpg |
