Nissan's New Sports Car

You know, I thought Nissan was batty :rolling_e for trimming down the New Maximas into a sports car styled body when they had the 300 line of cars in production. But there is a method to their madness. I heard on cable that in the near future, Nissan will stop production of the 300 line, make the Maxima their sports car and Altima their new flagship.

Any thoughts on this guys?

Ill let KCMaxx answer this one

I hope they don't do that. I didn't agree with the trim down of the 09 Max too much, although i think it's still very sexy. I think Nissan hit the nail on the dead with the Maxima.. Sylish, powerful and very comfortable. Why would you change that?

Actually it was a four door sports car and a lot of people were upset when the 6th gen came out(with it being a yhat and all). i feel that they it is right on the money by doing what they did.

Now I dont agree with the changing it to a sports car that would be dumb.....oh and the Altima basically already is the flagship.

THat doesn't make sense...

It would be hard to re-brand the Maxima as a straight sports car.. too many "Isn't that a family car...?" explainations to try and sell it.

Especially when the Z's are just sick enough by themselves. =-)

I like my flagship ;-)

I wouldn't expect to see that, considering that they just redesigned the Z car. They're not going to cut a car they just re-designed a few months ago.

I don't see how you equate the 7th gen with the Z. It looks miles better than the older Maximas, but at the end of the day, it's still a full size sedan.

But the questions is how do Z's sell vs. other models. GM just cut HPV to focus on the broader market. Nissan could, in theory, do the same.

I still think 3rd and 5th gen maxs look the best.

If Nissan went to an rwd platform it would have a larger appeal. Look at the 5-series, 4-dr sedan with guts. I would buy a full size rwd sedan over a coupe.

same thing can be said for the g8

True, but with the g8, interior quality is poor. Every new Pontiac I've sat in is lacking in interior feng shui and quality.

so how would a 4dr replace a 2dr RWD ????

i highly doubt the 370Z is gong anywhere

No the Z aint going anywhere but if nissan would get a new sports car what would be left hmm.............240!! anyone They could produce 2+2 coupe based on the S15 with there current 2.5liter throw in a turbo and boom a new sports car that would fall in the Evo/STI market call it the 250sx i guess or S16 idk but I can dream I guess :D

I heard there going to make a small rwd coupe "just like the 240" and it's going to be cheaper then the 370z. Toyota/Subaru are working on one too.

Exactly Nissan should hire me :D they all need to bring the classics back Supras/240's/3000GT!!! I can only hope so because the S15 was sexy as hell

Altimas as a Flagship?

:( Oh! My Bad. I fail to mention that they are also cutting the Sentras too. But no stuff, they are suppose to be cutting the Z line because they aren't selling the way they use to. My fiance' had a 2+2 280 Z, the current 300 line don't come close to that, so cutting it seems feasible to me. I.M.H.O.

And as for the Altimas being a 'flagship' ... ? I'll agree that they are the right size to take over that slot. However, I had a 06 Altima 2.5 S before I got my 05 Maxima. And a flagship ... it ain't. :goofy: It didn't begin to touch the car I have now. To me, they would have to keep producing the current type of Maxima (2004-2008), but slap an 'Altima' sign on it in order to bring it up to current flagship standards.

The new 07+ Altima is an improvement from the 02-06, but still not close to the new Max. but i guess it can be flagship after one more redesign.

last i heard (i might be wrong) the s16 was going to be out in 2010-2011ish and that it would be priced somewhere between 17,000 and 20,000. but all the renderings i have seen are soooo ugly, imo
