RPM's go wild

ok, got a driveability prob

when i idle sometimes my rpm flutters from 1300-2000. Sometimes its juss normal. I also have this hesitation prob sometimes when im crusing the car will hesitate for a few sec and then back to normal. I feel these are related...but what could it be? suggestions? ideas?

Check your MAFS first, also make sure your throttle body is cleaned and also check that the idle screw is properly positioned. If you need pics let me know.

Use a volt meter on your MAFS, if you have a repair manual it lists the proper voltage out put. MAFS commenly break after being removed and cause a idle/stall condition. When mine broke I had simalar problems to you but at lower RPM's, this could result in a rich mixture rather then a lean one{maybe}. BTW 1100-1700 RPM's at idle is a bit extreme that's why I recommended you check your TB positioning screw. Good luck..

Sounds like it could be a fuel control problem. I'm sure you've got it set up to give enough fuel, but make sure you have good control of how much and when...

I turned the idle air control screw up some in order to combat the engine vibration I get now due to the Polyurethane motor mounts I now have. After a few hundred miles in driving, it seems as though the computer has readjusted itself, and the idle seems like its back down to square one. I do notice sometimes I have the stumbling problem like you do, if I'm just coasting down the street. What I'll probbaly do today is to reset the idleair controller and the ECU to see if I can get it to behave.

If you are turbocharged, it's just a turbo thing. My friends turbocharged civic and and integra does the same exact thing. It shouldn't be nothing to worry about. I'm not saying that's what is doing it but it could be.

it might be turbo related, but i dont think its the turbo. i duno...have to check things out...its crazy i swear. Before it coudlnt idle on its own when cold, now it can idle by itself when cold..sometimes it stalls out, sometimes it runs great, sometimes it backfires..

it could be your o2 sensor.. it might be dying.. when my o2 was about to go out on my crx my car idled really funny.. sometimes it'll be just fine and sometimes it'll be all bumpy and about to stall so i'de hafta rev the engine up.. and beacuse the o2 wasn't dead yet the problem was intermiten.. just look into the o2 sensor just incase... other thant hat i think it could just be the ecu.

my turbo civic had unstable idle when in traffic or when running 280 degrees +. My accord had lumpy idle w/ aggressive cams, almost not enough vacuum to turn acessories...LoL.

!!!! hogan, how many cars do you have and can i have one or more? lol
