can you get around locking lugnuts

a few days ago at the junkyard, they got more 3rd gens in and one was a clean white 94 SE. I finally got what i went for, manual seat brackets

it had some good looking rims too, i didnt think of them though and left. I went back today, and theyre still on the car and theyre MOMO rims which are pretty good. the problem is, it has locking lugnuts and theres no key, which is why theyre still on the car and nobody took them yet. I checked the trunk, glovebox, and vacinity of the car but i cant find the key. I tried a socket/ratchet and found one that will grip the lugnuts but i cant get them to budge. I called one of my ex-mechanic cousins and he said all i can try is to force them with the socket

is there any other way to get the lugnuts off? theyre nice rims with no curb rash and minimal scratches, it would be a shame if they get wasted :bawling:

You should be able to hammer on a socket to break them loose.... Be aware that you will destroy the socket though...

+1 hammer on a socket. Snap-on also makes a wheel lock removal tool.

sockets no biggie, worst case is i can get a new one. theyre open for another 2 and a half hours so i'm gonna go back and try to hammer the bishes

looks like i have to try one of those tools, i hammered but i couldnt get it to budge, and it took a while to get my ratchet/socket off. i thought the socket was a goner but i went hulk on it and it came off

you can always look far a key locally if its a cheap set of lugnuts like the mass produced ones

i have seen "locking" lugnuts keys that look like a 8 point star... but you can stick a 3/8 extension into the actual lugnut and it will turn it ... pisshhh locking lugs my ***

i found some gov.t paper with his name, DOB, and some other stuff. i should look up the bish and ask him where the fawk the key is :squint:

the stickers on a plate in the trunk (guessing his) show 05 and 06 so the car has been sitting somewhere inbetween 06 and 09, its hit on the passenger rear side and i would imagine if it wasnt written off he would have swapped the rims for some cheap hubcap ones/OEM before he sent it to the junkyard or if it was written off ask to switch with OEM's

This always sucks - but the socket trick has yet to fail me. Good luck getting this off.....

chrome91 11-10-2009 06:56 PM

man its a clean car, its a GXE not a SE but its leather interior and i figured may as well get the console cover to match my Sparco seats

the guy spilled pop in the center console, and we all know what pop does in after 4 years. Mold in the whole center console, cover was at least good so i got it

i still cant get the dam lugs to loosen, lots of people are trying but they cant get em either. theyre like the fukcing sword in the stone lol

Because your hammered on socket slips or because they are crazy tight? Bring the handle of a jack or other suitable pipe.

I have the snap-on tool, what a lifesaver that has been.

chrome91 11-11-2009 10:38 AM

naw it doesnt slip, it grips the lugs so good that i have to sparta kick my ratchet to pry off the ratchet/socket.

i'll try once more, the car will most likely be crushed within the next week and a half so ive got a bit of time. you can see that people have been digging around to try and find the key

djfrestyl 11-11-2009 10:47 AM

Sounds like you need a breaker bar.

First pic I could find:

bish, i cant get a SINGLE lug to move, ive tried it all. no one else can get them either, guess they were just meant to stay on the car

good news is i found a guy parting out on a JDM 300zx and he's selling me the Momo's off of it for cheap

i delt with this b4 and it worked for me if your not concern with the lug nut stud witch shouldnt be a problem. also if u rather keep the momo off the Z then oh well but i thought id help. anyways a while back i lost my lug nut ket right, so i pondered and wonder and came to the conclusion of using a batery operated drill with a few drill bit pieses. its a long process but it was worth it becuase my tires/rims were on my max for soo freakin long my tires were ready to go on me, it was like slicks. anyways make sure to have 2 or 3 back of battery or so for your drill unless it used a cord then by all means knock you self out using the cord. with the cordless charge one while the other is in used. also make sure u have some strong titanium drill bits or so just somthing strong so it wont break in the middle of drilling. start by drilling a small hole at the center of the nut then gradually enlarge it by changin the drill bit size make sure to reach the other end so u wont have to rip the rims out or pry it out. evenually ull have the whole nut drilled out along with the stud. MAKE SURE to not use a drill bit NO larger than the rim's nut whole. your gunna ruin it obviously. ALSO HAVE A NICE PALE OF WATER WITH U or some water that can cool down the drill bit becuase it will get super hot after a couple min of drillin. then make your way around and evenually have then all off. hope this works. it did for me but i had to replace my studs. itll be a long process but if u want those rims bad enough yur gunna have to work for it. good luck.

djfrestyl 11-21-2009 08:42 AM

Wow.

That's a LOT of unnecessary work when a tool for the exact job already exists.

NisMoN00B 11-21-2009 10:22 AM

What is a "PALE OF WATER" .... ?

82maxtx 11-21-2009 10:29 AM

take the whole control arms and hub / strut assembly? and for the rear, take the whole damn axle? I've seen it done before...:laugh::laugh::D I mean, if you want em THAT bad lol

bryan163 11-21-2009 10:40 AM

I've removed those for a bunch of people. I just use my IRWIN stripped bolt extractor sockets with my impact gun. Zips em right off every time. They sell the extractors at Advance Auto.

chrome91 11-21-2009 05:09 PM

i couldnt get them off and just got the rims off of the Z, but someone got IBTL and was able to get the rims, props to whoever was able to lol
