4th vs 5th Gen

I know the 5th gen has the dual runner intake giving it more horsepower but I also know that it's more heavier than the 4th gen. So which is faster? 4th or 5th gen? And is it a noticeable difference in daily driving or no? Also which gets better gas mileage? Better yet, it would be best to list ALL of the pros and cons of both the 4th and 5th gens. Thanks in advance!

eh, you cant use that video. you can hear that one of them is modded, and you can see that the 4th gen has rims on it (heavier than stock?), theres no telling what else is done. plus, driver error, etc.

all else equal, id say the difference between a 4th gen and 5th gen is negligible in a 1/4 mile race. in the end, because of the IM, the 5th gen will prevail, but who knows how long that'll take.

then you gotta look at cost of a 4th gen vs a 5th gen. is the added cost worth the potential mileage difference between said 4th gen and 5th gen? how about condition? honestly, deciding between a 4th gen and 5th gen ultimately comes down to which one you think looks better...

Having had both, you definitely can feel the power difference even in regular daily driving the 5th gen is way more powerful. I agree though that the 4th gen does get better mpg but that also depends on how you drive and if the POS maf sensor is working properly. I used to get bad mpg but that's because my maf was shot too bad after installing a new maf I didn't go a tank to see how better the mpg was but I have heard it is still good. But in my 4th gen that I currently own I'm actually getting ok mpg even though my maf is shot. F*cking MAF SENSORS!

depends what you want. having owned 3rds 4ths and 5ths i'd say 4th are the best of the bunch.

3rds are hard to come by without rust in my area. still a great commuter car.

4th feel better to drive. 5ths seem heavy. Also there are way more mods and options with a 4th vs a 5th. they are also dirt cheap.

5ths(5.5) are more luxurious, modern, have a horrible turning radius and get not that great mpg. Also performance options are few compared to a 4th gen.

It all comes down to what you really want and need the car for. Also age becomes a factor. Is it worth buying a 4th gen, dumping 10k into it to have a car someone else had 5 years ago which has a book value is under 5k?

5.5 gen? :wall:

i would say compare miles to price. if you come across a great 4th gen deal grab it. same for 5th or 5.5 gen.

im thinking about trading my 98 for an 03 6spd. cash too of course. im just wondering if i need or want a different max. i love my car and dont want to regret my decision. i guess i should start by driving the 03 and seeing if i like it. ive heard about the 3.5 burning oil. any other problems people have heard about? any input is appreciated.

Easily solved:

vq35 > vq30

Now if we start talking turbo/superchargers...
