Casper95's Max is leaking coolant

I'm starting this thread for Casper95. I tried to help him a bit via PM, but I'm slammed right now and have little time, and am a newbie mechanic myself, so I started this thread for him.

Below is Casper95's last, and most pertinent, PM to me. I hope we can all be a help to a fellow Maxima bloke in need. :)

---------------------------------
Thanks for the PM.
This has been bugging me this whole day So during my lunch time, I went under my car...and Booyyy I found something not good.

My 95 Nissan Maxima w/ 19Xk is leaking tons of coolant and I found the problem..there is a crack and it looks like it was just patched with something to stop the leak...not sure what to do here.

Thanks!
I plan to take more pictures of the problem this week so I can get a better look at what is going on.

in the mean time... Does anyone have any idea what this may be?

Hard to tell where about on the engine that pic is taken. Seems to be the underside of a drive belt so my guess is that's in the area below the tensioner???? If so, it's possible that it's the water pump starting to go.

A little more info on the location would help.

Also, that's not a patch.

I'll take more pictures this weekend and post them. I dont plan on driving the car because the weather over here in the Bay Area is getting hotter. Hate to have the car over heat and Im stuck on the side of the road.

Sorry Guys! I've been really busy with work and now that I have a week off I finally have time to go under the car. I was wrong where originally thought where the lead was coming from. I think it was just built up gunk. hahaha

After spending hours under the car I found the leak. Coolant is coming from a pulley..Not sure what the pulley is called but I do hope its an easy fix.

Below are pictures I took. Please let me know what you all think. Thanks!

Hi Guys!
Here is an update on my Max. It ended up being a bad waterpump.

I recently replaced my waterpump and I had a guy do the job on the side. Ever since he replaced the waterpump I am hearing a very loud squeaking sound coming from the engine. This only happens when I start the car and when it is cold. I tried to call the guy, but of course he will not answer any of my calls.

Once it's warm or after 30secs I start the car the squeaking goes away. Its getting annoying and I dont know how to fix it.

Have you ever had this problem? Or know how to fix it?

Thanks in advance,
Calvin

That sounds like a worn, or loose belt to me. Check your belt tension. Make sure you have plenty of power steering fluid too.

Edit: after looking again at your pics, I am betting worn belt cause I can see a lot of cracks in it. If you have not replaced the belt, its overdue. If it has been replaced since those pics, check the tension.

I concur on the belt tension and the worn belt. I went back and tightened the new gatorback belt that i put on after upgrading the alternator to an excessive amperage 250amp alternator several times. The reason is that i skipped the step of cranking the car up then tightening some more. Did that three times in a row going a little tighter each time until the squeak was gone. If you do not crank the engine over then you are just adjusting the tension at the tensioner and not across the crank, ac, or alternator pulley's.

thanks guys! I'm off this Friday and I plan to change the belts.
What belts do you recommend?

Meh, nothing special, just whatever you can get at the parts store.
