Washing/Waxing when it's cold
 

There's a meet in Tampa this weekend and I want my car to look clean... we'll work on actually being clean later. The weather here is around 56-60 during the day and 25-30 at night. Can I safely wax the car with a paste wax (or liquid) in this weather? If not, is there anything I can do other than wash it and wait for warmer weather to wax?

Is it that cold in Tampa? I was working there from May to September and temp were around 68 in the evenings and high 80s in the daytime.

I am now back home in Canada and today was warm, around 50F. However, it has been below freezing for a while.

40F might be ok, I have not tried waxing any colder than that.
Washing with bare hands would be silly at that temperature

I waxed mine on Tuesday using Zymol cleaner wax and the temp was about 50. Unfortunately it was sunny so I tried to find as much shade as possible, but it still looked very good. How bad is it to wax your car in the sun anyway?

Being the idiot I once used to be, I waxed my 2000 Altima in direct sunlight and it was smoking up. No damage was done to the paint though just heat from the sun and the wax was causing smoke.

I have all respect for Nissan paint now.

Guess I'll try it in the middle of the day... that layer of ice on the car is menacing in the morning. This is Florida, that sh!t shouldn't happen. :mad:

bigbadboss101- I don't know about Tampa, I live in Gainesville, about an hour and 15 minutes north of Tampa. Yes, it is that cold here. We've had a "hard freeze warning" the last few nights, the low has been 25 at night. It's 55 out right now, and I can say for sure that this is the hottest it's been all day, had class in the morning.

I'm gunna be in FL in mid Feb...u guys should plan an event! Oh wait, I will have a dorky rental car....damnit! Anyway, if you have a garage, get a space heater, turn it on for like 10 minutes, then u can wax in temperate conditions.

As for waxing in the sun, it's bad to wax your car in direct sunlight. You'll notice most directions on wax bottles/cannisters indicate application in direct sunlight is bad.

56-60 is NOT COLD!!!!!!..... I actually try to wash my car today in 30 degree temp..... not a good idea....
