I have decided what my next car will be.

Acura RSX type R. I'm gonna wait for one. I have 2 years left on my Maxima mortgage, and as soon as it is paid off, i'm gonna get the RSX.

I am sick of my Maxima having unacceptable problems.

1) constant knocking. I always fill up with exxon 92, and I even put in a bottle of octane booster. No help. It still knocks. Of course, it doesn't knock all the time, but it does it about 30% of the time.

2)rear beam. I HATE IT SO MUCH... In a perfect mirror straight world, beam has the advantage over the irs, but we DO NOT live in a perfect world.

3)squeaks everywhere in the dash

4)No rear headrests in a car that costs 30k. Camry's have them, and even the Hyundai Elantras have them.

5)Poor shifter.

I will still be keeping the Max, but no more Maxima for me unless Nissan starts thinkin straight. My next sedan will be German, which will come after the RSX type R.

the car shouldn't be knocking unless you took out your knock sensor. you will never hear a knock unless it'a way bad. bring it in to be checked out.

let's not forget the rotors that warp every 5000 miles.

2 years is a lot of time...i'm sure you'll find something better than both the maxima and rsx by then:D ...maybe even a flying car...meet george jetson...ok, i need to stop watching cartoons:p

thats what you get for buying a 5th Gen Minima .. here is another idea.. buy another gas than exxon

You think the maxima interior squeaks, wait till you get in any honda.

I almost bought a used 4th gen.
 

but I really liked the 5th gen, back then.

Now I know I should've gotten a used 97 or 98. I would have saved myself a lot of money, and I would not feel as bad for not waiting for 2k2s.

My Accord V6 had interior squeaks all over the damned place :mad:

1) Dash rattle
2) Headrest rattle
3) rear door/seatback interface popping noise
4) seat squeaks/thumps

My 99 Max is definitely not squeak/rattle free either, but:

1) I did not pay the $30k for it new that it probably cost.
2) Because I got it used, my expectations are much less.
3) Because of #2, imperfections do not bother me :)

Ahh yea, another happy maxima owner. I won't bore everybody of the many reasons I will never buy a nissan again. I have a honda motorcycle that I like alot.

2k-2k1's have bad rotors, there is a TSB on them.

ya if you spent more under yoru car it might be back together by now.

I think the 2k and 2k1 were the most problematic Maximas in recent years. Judging by my ol 2k1 and what others say, my 2k2 seems to be a bit of an improvement. My 97 is still solid as the day we bought it!:D

Take the 'N' in honda and turn it sidways.:laugh:

I was thinking about a sports car just to save some gas and tell my friends I ain't got room for their fat asses in my car :). Anyway I sat in the RSX, Celica, Tiburon, and mustang at an auto show. The most confortable one I sat in was the Celica. The stang is pure was just too basic for my tastes.

Celica had just enough room with a bit of leeway (I'm 6'0). While the RSX didn't at all. I couldn't back the seat enough for a decent ride. Either way though, the passengers for the backseat better not have any legs cuz they <b>will not</b> fit!

Of course I ultimatly want a maxima... mmm or a G35 coupe :)! but I dunno the price of those small sports cars do seem more "economic"

Not to say what's already been said, but i have a comment about this.

Why exactly do you hate the multi-link beam suspension?

It's funny if you really think about it, most of the people i know who has a Honda (including me back then) ended up getting an upper and lower tie bar + a rear sway bar to keep both sides connected and make it act as one piece.

No doubt an Acura will address all your issues except the knocking. There's definitely something wrong with your motor if it knocks on super. It will when starting out with regular or going high revs uphill, but shouldn't with super.

If you're looking 2 years down the road, you're a patient dude. Why not set your sights higher like an A4 or something? Just figure out how much it would cost and sock some extra money away for the next 24 months. I wouldn't wait that long and make a lateral move, I'd set my sights higher. The 3 headrests in the back is so pretentious but once again, it's amazing how Hyundai is always up on the latest styling! The rear muffler is simply the best touch on the Elantra. Maxima had egg on its face and had to take off the gaudy chrome trim, but now it looks like a Midas replacement!

...do we really care what your next car is going to be? No.
FYI, Hondas have plenty of dash rattle.
Why do you care about rear seats when you are the driver? Oh and, FYI, some people find rear headrests to be very uncomfortable.
And further, that "knock" sounds like you probably ought to have had something repaired.

Artic, I understand your wanting another car. But you do talk about squeaks and rattles, you did lower your car with altered springs and I think that may have something to do with your problems, now on the rotors I am not gonna even go there:mad: I too have a 2K and I love it so far. If you lower a Honda or any other car with cut springs(not how they were designed) you are gonna get the same results. I wish you the best of luck in your new car hunt, the RSX is a sweet car!

Now to the guy who doesn't want another Nissan, you talk about how Nissan quality sucks, you do burnouts all day long on McDonalds trays, give me a fricken break. I do recall reading posts of how the Maxima does massive burnouts for you, I wonder why you have so many problems with you car??????????? Do this with any other vehicle and you are gonna have the same problems.

I gotta agree that the RSX is a sweet car and performs well. I also love how it revs fast and high. Gas mileage is also quite good... even better than my previous Civic.

Seats that hug you and a trunk (it is a hatchback) that can haul a lot more than my max are added plus'.

My only gripe is the bone-jarring, teeth shattering ride... which gets amplified multiple times by the road conditions here in Houston :(

Then again something always has to go if you want otherwise. That's why i only drive the RSX ocassionally. 99% of the time i'm in the Max. :)

That's a driver flaw...not a car. I had 18k on my Maxima 2k1 5spd and drove it pretty hard and never had a warped rotor. Same goes for my 2000 auto, had 28k, no warped rotor.

Agree. If I could afford to get a RSX or a German car, I would pick the German car! Shouldn't even be any hesitation.

Hi,

Don't mean to flame you so please don't take it as much. But realize that ALL cars have problems. I just traded in my 00 Acura CL-S (a step up from the RSX imho) and it had as many, if not more problems than your max.

1- MY rotors warped at 6000KM, not miles .. and then 3 times again after they "Fixed" it
2- My IMRD module (for the variable intake) failed and had to be replaced, it's a common problem for CL-S'
3- Paint chips galore, I dispute the paint quality on the CL-S
4- I hear just as many squeeks in my dash as I do in my brother's 01 AE Maxima
5- No handbrake on a "performance" coupe
6- I haven't had any tranny problems, but if you check out www.acura-cl.com there is a class action suit going on against Acura for faulty trannies
7- Moonroof has squeeking problem .. their "Fix" is to apply Teflon tape. PRoblem recurs after a lil while.

This is just off the top of my head .. and in a car that costs more than your Maxima.

OK I'm the guy who doesnt want another nissan...burnouts, drag racing, mcdonald's trays or pillows DOES NOT CHANGE THE FACT the car has a minivan non independent rear suspension, REALLY bad resale, lowest of the group crash tests results, bad dealers and 101 other reasons. I'm sure you've seen my other posts so I'll spare you from me pulling out the links to back up my facts.

BTW, my only problem I had with my car has been the transmission. And yes, when the differential bearings failed, it was bad quality control, proved that in the 2 transmissions I have the shims were all the same size.

While an Acura may crop up with problems here and there, the fact is the car is designed better from the get go. Hondas use wishbone suspensions instead of the joke suspensions we have. Lets not talk about where else Honda/Toyota/Acura/Lexus is superior...

Any car can get warped rotors. Our Nissan Quest did, our 96 Grand Am did, my 98 Maxima did. Many. Depends how hard you are on your brakes and if you give them time to cool. If I do a hard hard stop, and if I know I have the room, I usually press the brakes harder, let go to air them a sec and press them hard again. This gives them a little time to not get so hot. I haven't had a warped rotor problem since I did this. Also the CL-S is defintely a better made car than a Maxima. The tranny issue though is a problem. The 2000-2001 Maxima autos have a similar problem with the autos going out, but not as bad. The auto is not made for racing, its made for luxury. IF you race a car, it will break. Paint chips galore. Depends where you live. The Maximas front end is the worse to get chips on any cars I have seen. There are a few guys on here that have TLs and compared the max to them, and they said a long time ago, it was much better. At least Acura fixes the chips under warranty.

Also, all cars have problems. I don't know of one car that doesn't have a single problem.

It's not a minivan suspension, perhaps similar because of the beam but it's far superior than regular beams.

I don't know about the crash results, seems fine with me. Dealers? That's subjective. What other 101 reasons?

Not all Honda's use an IRS/Wishbone suspension and that may no longer be the case as they're starting to cut corners. (the new Civic is a good example of how they started changing the suspension).

If this is about superiority. Ever heard of the Skyline? <g>

Point being, each brand of car has it's own plus and minus'. Anything you throw at one brand can be thrown back at ya. Just because you had a bad experience with it doesn't mean every single thing out there is just as bad.

If you hate Nissan so much, get rid of the car. On the resale issue what the he77 were you thinking when you bought it used, did you think you were gonna make the value go up by doing pillow burnouts? You seem to drive the crap out of your cars and if you abuse any car it is gonna break down, common fact. I do promise you if you treat the Acura TL or Lexus IS 300 manuals, oh wait they haven't brought them to market yet(just coming out). If you treat them the same way your tranny will fail.

Our cars are made rather well, it has saved me a couple of times in close calls and our cars do ride better than Hondas. I will give you the bad dealer point, I have been lucky in locating a great service department here in VA.

On the topic of comparing us to other cars like Acura and Lexus, compare the Infiniti line to them, that is why Nissan has that line to compete.

Actually, IS300 5SPD is already been out, 6spd CL-S is out in 1-2 weeks at the dealers. There won't be a 6spd in the TL-S.

too bad the IS300 auto is faster than the manual :slant:
