i'm also very happy with the rims and tires, the tires STICK.

wrong tire size and should have got the gunmetal

correct tire size accordign to stock, i'd rather have the extra 10mm of road contact anyway, and they weren't gunmetal i found out they were like almost black.

Something doesn't add up. The Tire RAck recommends the same for a 2k2 SE as all the other SE's, the usual cast of characters except the 17" recommendation is stock--225/50-17, 235/40-18, 235/35-19, etc. That doesn't make sense because the 225/50 is .5" bigger than a 235/45-17, and .9" bigger than a 235/40-18.

The only tire they offer in a 225/50-17 is the Pilot A/s--that is 26.1" in diameter. That would be the equivalent of a 255/40-18, with the 245/40-18 being .2" off, which is acceptable in +1 and +2. WTF is going on? If the data is right then even the 245/40-18 is smaller than stock, surprising it can clear the front susp. Maybe there is an error on the Pilot A/S page, wtf knows?

all i know is that 245/40/18 is the closest you can get to stock overall diameter.

I think that's the only one you can go with. A 235/40-18 would be too low, but it's equiv to the 215/55-16. The 255/40-18 is a direct fit, but I think it'd be too wide, plus you'd need a 9" rim.

Nissan really ****** up with the 225/50-17 tire. As Eddie Murphy said in one of those films, "That's one tall bi***!!" Just use common sense, people were using 225/50-16 instead of 215/55-16. If you go to 225/50-17, same aspect ratio, 17 vs. 16" rim, that's an inch difference. What was Nissan thinking?

i have 245/40/18's on a 18x7.5 inch rim and they fit FINE.

That's weird. For a 245 a 9" is recommended but an 8" is the minimum. I don't think the 9" rim would work on the Maxima. It's really bizarre the shop that aligned my wheels said alot of shops do things wrong. I don't know what the outcome is when you mount the tire on a rim outside of the rim width range. Maybe it's nothing more than Jiffy Lube saying your car will turn into a pumpkin if you don't change your oil every 3. Hopefully more 2k2 owners will clear it up. But 245/40-18 sounds right to me.

ya that's what i would recomend, the 7.5 gives the tire a bulge which i like, rim protection from curb.

damn how much is it going to replace those tires?

Someone please bust out that tire calculator...235/40/ZR18 is suppose to be the correct size on the 4th gen. Don't know about 5th gen.

btw - i have 235/40/18 on my 4th gen and i think that's big - i wouldn't want an even taller tire... the ride must be a little better though i'd imagine.

thats why i wanted to go 19's .. the 18's with 235/40 just looked too small to me.. thats why i think emax and steve's look like 17's.. i mean.. whats the use in paying extra for 18 inch rims if they end up looking like 17's anyway :gotme:

On the one hand, I know what you mean because 18" is for looks, anything beyond 17" is probably not optimal. On the other hand, you can't just eyeball the right size. Based on a standard 225/50-17, the equiv 18" is actually a 255/40-18. Why? The 225-50/17 is nearly 1" larger in diameter than the 215/55-16. What I don't get at all is on 2001 SE's, didn't it come with 215/55-16 standard and 225/50-17 optional? Since they are not the same diameter, did Nissan make a speedo correction???

Up close 18" look like they kick butt. There is no mistaking them. The Vette has 18's rear and 17's front. Join the 18" movement baby, forget about 19 they're not practical at all. :cool:
