Is it true KYB doesn't warranty a 2" drop?

Just put the stock springs back on and also how would they know what kind of drop you have??

They don't come and inspect your vehicle, they go by what they see on struts returned for repair. They say they can tell from certain types of internal damage, which could only be caused by excessive drop, as the struts are designed for stock ride configuration.

Turbo95Max Apr 19, 2002 11:21 PM

yep

these struts are made for stock height cars. which is really lame in my opinion cause their performance struts. they could of at least shorten the strut body even by 1" that would allow for more suspension travel. yes they wont inspect your car, but they can see if you bottomed the strut out alot, which means you lowered it more then 2" or whatever the number is. Koni's were like that too, made for stock height...LAME!

Damn.....

so will the AGX's hold up to 2" drops or not?

spiff56747 Apr 20, 2002 12:29 AM

yeah they should hold up

the warranty says you can't drop it more than 1.5 inches, or its void

oh well, my B+G's are .1 inches over

Or how bout this.

You know how some people use spring spacers for rear springs to keep it from sagging while carrying people. Can't the spacers be used in both front and rear to effectively reduce the drop, say 2" to 1.75" ?

What would be the purpose? Just get less aggressive springs.

Lime Apr 20, 2002 08:02 AM

performance struts and shocks. yes, because performance isn't made BETTER by slamming a car, as discussed before. The warrantee on pretty much all aftermarket performance shocks/struts I have come across is 1.5" or less is acceptible, and anything over that, if they can see the damage may have been caused by overcompression due to a bigger drop, voids your warrantee.

hokiemax Apr 20, 2002 11:43 AM

I didn't get 2" springs for performance.

I just wanted to remove the 4x4 monster truck look.

IMO as long as the struts do not bottom out, there's no internal damage. There's no way they can tell that the car has been lowered 2". That's what bumstops are for; to prevent the struts and springs from bottoming out.

RedMax95 Apr 20, 2002 08:51 PM

btw to confirm the point, got rice? of eatrice.com who sold me mine informed me that if you drop it the warranty is voided

My company sells hydraulic accessories, such items include hydraulic pistons. It's not the internals which tell you the operating area of a piston dampener, it's the ware on the piston shaft itself. So YES KYB or any shock mfg. can tell exactly what your ride height was by measuring the ware on the piston shaft.

OMG... it scares me how much false or just plain bad information/advice I see these days on maxima.org Its a good thing we have a few good people correcting the comments.

the KYB-AGX struts will work fine with a low drop (I'm all the way down on my GC coilovers - the thing you need to remember is that you drive carefully and don't bottom out the struts if you can at all avoid it. Your warentry is void when you go low but that's fine if you are carefull. Thinking you can trick them into giving you a replcement by putting your stock springs back on a blown strut is just nonsense. Spring spacers are unsafe for performance cars IMO based on having some on my old escort GT - buy new springs if you want to raise your car. And finally, ignorance is no excuse when you are modding your car... I knew I would void my warenty when I got my AGX - I did the research before I got them

However Koni won't void your warrenty if you use them on a lowered car. I had them on my old car with Sprint springs, and one Koni blew. I contacted Koni and they mailed me a new strut without my even having to send the defective one in.

Great service.
