I'm really confused now about my cv joint?......

Can just the cv joint be replaced and not the axel? OR is the cv joint and the axel all one piece? If its not the cv joint specifically then what else could click like that on the axel? Is there a second CV joint?

Yes you can replace just the joint. Its a pain in the *** to do though, and costs MORE labor then just replacing the entire axle.

There are 2 CV joints per axle. One inner, and one outer.

My recommendation is if your joint is shot, might as well just get an entire axle.

I second that. It will be cheaper in the long run just to replace the entire axle.

I third that idea, replace the axel, it's cheaper and easier and you wind up with everything new (or rebuilt) again.

I fourth that, with the cost of a new boot, joint, and the labor it'd be much easier to go with a new or remanufactured one. And if you're doing it yourself, save yourself the pain.

Get a NEW axle from www.raxles.com

I did, and it was fantastic!

CV joint a success:I'm so glad I trusted my instinct. The replaced the axel for 186 total. Great price and they didn't mess anything up! The guy wouldn't even go for a ride with me b/c he knew I demanded to have it replaced. He said again "Don't come back here and complain if the noise is still there". I smiled and said thats cool. Picked up and went for a spin. PERFECT. I "powered" through a hard left and all I heard was the engine. :) The guy said as I was leaving that he drove it and couldn't tell a difference. I told him he wasn't pushing it hard enough!
