99 max = can't reset ECU?
I got the CEL light because when I tried to install my intake which didn't worked (first attempt now its ok) because the MAF sensor was unpluged, now I took the piece beside the accleartor pedal apart & tried to reset ECU, I poked thru that plastic hold that tells u how to turn the ecu screen, but theres NO screw in it wtf:confused:(even used flash light to check) then I checked another member's 4th gen 97 max & u can see the screw inside it, so whats with mine? the 99 ecu is the same as teh 00+ ecu & cannot be resetted? should I unplug battery overnight? please help!

What was the build date of your car? If it is 02/99 or later (maybe 03/99 I'm not sure), then SPECULATION is it's a 2k+ ECU and you're screwed. My 99 was built in 03/99 and I haven't had the heart to look and see on mine. Another indication is if you have those stupid flanges on the top of your strut towers on the driver's side that makes puttin in older rev. (i.e. not for 5th gen) FSTBs require a hacksaw and lots of patience.... |

I unplugged teh battery over night, I'll see what happens when I plug it back in an hour or so. If the CEL is still on what can I do? (its been unplugged for over 12hrs) |
I can see a hole in there but I don't think theres a screw in there, also do I leave the car in "on" position when I reset the ECU? the instruction I've read just say turns it clockwise wait then turn back & repeat doesn't say if the key should be in it or not when doing this

drop an elbow on it...
there is a screw there.. yes.. the car should be on... at least power should be applied to the accessories |

Originally posted by costcowholesale thanks! I kept turning the screw clockwise then counterclockwise yesterday when the keys were in my pocket because none of hte instruction said leave it in "on" :p  power has to be applied to the ecu so it can reset itself... |
