Let's Get this Engine Breathing (VQ35)

***This is not a group deal, but hopefully it will become a group deal soon***
So, after much discussion, I find that the primary power limiter for the Maxi engine is its intake manifold. This is the primary difference between the Maxi VQ and the 350Z VQ. So I suggest we try to get an intake manifold produced. (As the 350Z's manifold has been proven not to fit)

Obviously, there are a few drawbacks to his mod:
1) It'll be expensive
2) It'll void the warranty
3) The increase in power will hurt the feelings of mustang guys.

I'm not claiming to have a source on a shop that can get us price on fabricated or modified intake plenums. But I am willing to bet that with enough support, we can get something done.

Please respond to this thread with ideas about how to reconcile with the problem with the Maxima's VQ.
OR
With possible companies that could help us.
OR
With support for this project so we can bring that support to companies that might sign on.

I'll be working as hard as my time allows to get this project off the ground. Thanks in advance for any support or criticism (please let’s keep that constructive:) )

I've been looking into this....the 6th gen manifold should be able to bolt on to the 5th gens...

I'm sure Emax will have the balls to do the job.

What's the expected HP gain from a 6thgen swap?

What about us fourth gen. guys???:(

To get benefits from this GD, you'll have to swap your 3.0L engines with the VQ 3.5L.....

They already have one for you guys, it's the middle east edition intake manifold—it really opens up the top... a buddy of mine had it on his 99 max, he sold it... he had to part out his Max when he got a 350Z.

There was a GD thread about the Japan Edition of this intake, but I couldn't find the thread. Try looking up Japan VI(Variable Intake) or Middle East Edition VI, or just VI. The fact of the matter is, we VQ35 guys need to catch up with what you've already got.

Actually, for turbo guys, I've heard that the 3.0 heads fit on the 3.5, but drop compression (by about a point and a half). Lower compression is better for high boost. These heads could theoretically allow this manifold to fit. There would be computer problems to deal with.

I don't think Nissan is going to want to do a group deal on their 6th gen intake, but it's something to look into. Even if there is no group deal, if it fits, I think I'll bolt it on. Let's try to find out if it fits. I'm going to post in the 6th gen Forum to see if someone is crazy enough to do a temp swap to see if it fits. I'm in Chicago, so I'll volunteer my car in that area. Anyone willing to volunteer their car in other areas? Ignore that "crazy enough" comment I just made. :D

iansw or Cranman both sell the MEVI. It works wonders at over 5000 RPM

:)

It's still early, but I doubt that we'll find anyone willing to let us test fit thier Gen VI manifold out of the goodness of thier heart.

To that effect, how does everybody feel about offering incentive to any volunteers. Maybe an mid-pipe and airfilter package or something like that. With enought people donating, this wouldn't cost us much individually.

Just a thought.

265hp on the Gen VI. Who wants a 25hp gain? Add intake and exhaust... the possibilities are... well at least 287hp (like the Z)

If we can get this thing done, and my car ends up being the volunteer, I'll pay for before and after dyno's. I suggest that if someone else volunteers, I think we should get a fund going to pay for thier before and after dyno's. Obviously, none of these "funds" should be started until we find a 6th gener who's willing.

Has anyone checked part numbers on the manifolds just to make sure they're different? I' going to work soon ,and won't have time today...
