Changing rear oxygen sensor. I got an 0901 reading I was told it is the sensor by the cat, but how do you change it?

Here is a simple way.
Go to www.oxygensensors.com

buy the sensor

jack up the car

Look back by the cat. The sensor will be right after the cat or right on top of it. I always forget wich one it is.

Remove old sensor

Put some anit-sieze on the new one and screw it in.

Your right. For a 97 I30 they only list the 2 sensors on the y-pipe and those are not what you want. I wonder why they don't list the 3rd down stream sensor???

Try looking up the 02 sensors for a 97 Maxima. It will show the o2 sensor you need, the one after the catalyst. I would probably just order that. It should work fine.

Wait. That sensor might not work, but it should. Try looking up a 96 I30 and choose "from 96". I shows the catalyst sensor that your looking for.

So you can either just go to the dealership and pay $120, try the sensor for the 97 Maxima, or try the one from the 96 I30 (from 96).

anybody else have any ideas.

Damn it I already processed the shipment. I looked under '96 and I see the one I need. I hope I can cancel or readjust the order. I think I hope the '96 one will work.

The thing is that I think the sensors that are on the cat are different than the ones after the cat. The 96 I30 sensor will probably be a after the car sensor, while the 97 maxima one will be a on the cat sensor......You can probably tell if it's the right one before you install it, so maybe you can return if it's not the right one.
