cold start issues on an '01?

Hey guys - my first post here. My girlfriend has an 01 I35 Touring that has developed a cold start problem. We've gone through the basics (tune up, new fuel filter, dry gas), whcih made it a bit better, but once it dips to below freezing, it seems to act up again.

I tried doing a search, but for some reason it won't let me...can anyone shed any light on where to look? Perhaps its a TSB issue? Car has about 72k on it.

Thanks in advance!

Adam

How about hooking up the block heater when ur not using the car. You should have one, its located right below the air intake duct (stock setup). Try that for one night. if it dont work... then im sure some of the pros here will step in.

I don't think thats the anwer honestly. We are in Long Island...it rarely gets below 20 degrees F, so while cold, it ain't that cold :)

Plus, it does start after 15-20 attempts. It always cranks, never an issue there, tells me its not the batter either. Right now I am leaning towards a fuel pressure issue of some sort....didn't know if this was a common problem or not.

In order for the problem to reveal itself, the car has to sit for an extended period of time (3 + hours) in the cold.

How many miles on her car? I seem to remember that a dirty Throttle Body can cause hard starts, especially if the car has over 60K

well, back from teh dead :)

We had a nice stretch of a week ro so where it was warm, followed by a cold spell....for the first part of the cold weather, car was fine, so we figured we would leave things be. Now that this latest cold spell has started, the cold start is back, and worse than ever.....car has been unable to start for days now :(

I guess I can try cleaning the TB with brake cleaner later on today....its supposed to be a whopping 30 degrees out.....warm weather!

I am going to post in the Maxima forum too and see if anyone has any insight.

Hoping someone can help!

Hows the battery in the car? That couyld be a source of the problem.

Yeas, what is the stock CCA on battery?
Try 700 or more.
