Impossible to lock in keys
 

Being lazy after unloading some groceries from the car and having left the keys inside I thought I'd just lock the door using the inside door lock. Suprised me that as soon as I shut the door all the doors unlocked again. Tried again and the same thing. Until now I had never noticed this nifty feature that stops you from locking your keys in the car, although in this case it wasn't so nifty as I had to go back inside to get the keys to lock it :(

Anyone else noticed this or am I just incredibly slow?

hm.... I never had that happen to me, nor is it even added to the owners manual, what do you own? I have an Infiniti I30

I noticed with in several weeks of owning mine.

Yeah it's not in the manual, or at least not that I've seen. Go out and try it, lock the doors from the inside and then shut the drivers side door and see if it automatically unlocks them again. Keep your keys out just in case it doesn't work ;)

Took me a few days after buying the car to figure that out (got it in the winter). Figured I'd start my car w/ one set of keys, and lock/unlock with the other, left inside the house.

It was only until one day I saw my GF walk past the keys in the house, to the car, and opened the door with no problem that I realized pressing the buttons on that key fob wasn't doing a d**n thing.

You can still lock the door manually (e.g. using the key in the lock.) If you do lock the car manually while the engine is running you'll have to unlock it manually as well, since the buttons on the key fob won't work.

Or you can lock the door while its open and then put the key in and start the car

or use the remote starter.. hehehe. the lazy way to do things..

That's the only thing I dont like about the remote start, when you start up the car.. you can't unlock the doors with your remote... so it's almost pointless to use remote start since you gotta manually unlock the door... I only see remote start being used for the summer time and the A/C set @ 65 degrees for a good 2 minutes lol.

...really? that's weird because I start my car in the winter to warm it up and lock my doors with the extra remote. The doors actually lock, I checked! Maybe your GF pressed the unlock button before she when outside.

Nah, she wouldn't have thought of that. Lets say the door was locked: she would've walked to the car, tried to open it, then yelled at me for leaving the door locked! :rofl:

I've tried it a few times after that. The fob can't be used to lock the door when the engine's running. At least in my '98. Maybe they changed things for the 2000.
