Car doesn't start, no crank at all... Help?

Having an issue starting. About 2 or so weeks ago my 96 I30 wouldn't start or even turn over at the turn of the key the first time. 2nd time perfect start. Happened a few times. Now, I turn the key and nothing, no crank, no growl, no report... All hazards come on, everything is powered. Any idea what it could be? Any advice is appreciated.

Do you hear a click when you turn the key from ON to START???... If so, then it is your starter motor. If you dont hear a click, and just nothing (and I mean absolutely nothing), then you need to replace the ignition switch. Both are easy to replace.

I have a 96 I 30 as well with the exact same symptoms as you are describing. Mine would not start at all a month or so ago and everything was powered. Turned out to be the starter. I had it replaced and now all is running smooth with no problems.

Good luck.

Had a new starter put in last year. I was guessing ignition too but wanted some opinions.

Don't forget the ignition fuse!!

I was messing with adding a activation switch to my MEVI and lept blowing the Ignition circuit by shortening it mistakenly.

If it makes no noise when you turn the key, check your fuse...

If its an auto, have you made absolutely certain that the car is fully in Park? Or, better yet, try cranking it with the tranny in Neutral.
That would be the first (and cheapest) thing I'd check.

??? The car can start in N or D. This does nothing.

My bad

i30ds,
then "oops" on my part. Haven't had my I30 long enough to try to crank it in anything but P. Just AssuMed that because my '97 Max won't crank unless its in P or N (has an electronic lockout of some sort, just like the vast majority of other AT cars, actually had to 'fix' this problem over the phone with my wife at work one day) that the '00 I30 wouldn't either.

IF the I30 will crank with the AT in D, I sincerely appologize (and shall try it when I get home).
